I sew in our dining room that we use once or twice a year. We have a fancy sideboard to go with the dining set that is filled with fabric, books, notions, etc. I can even store my cutting board in it. I just close it up and no one would ever guess what's inside! :-D

Best use of space I've seen in a long time. Very nicely done.

Thank you for posting this! I just told dh the other day that I'm thinking of moving my mom's china cabinet upstairs to my sewing room. Mom passed away 7 years ago and I inherited it. I don't use the "good" dishes anymore, plus it just doesn't match my kitchen cuboards. Now I know what it will look like filled with fabric! :thumbup:


I'm thinking of painting it a light green to go with my lavender sewing room. Mom would have a fit but..........hey it's mine now, right? :-P

Ow! kicking myself for the zillionth time for not accepting my Grandma's china cabinet when I had the chance. I was planning to move to Africa and wanted less to store or ship. But now I own a house here. While I do have china (Gma's), I'd put fabric in it for sure! Stupid, ow!

i have renovated what used to be a small dining room into a computer room and now a sewing /computer room that also houses a gun cabinet, a bookshelf, and a fluffy chair!! nope, not much room..yet! working on it! i have a built in small china cabinet with glass shelves i keep eyeing for storage for stash but have yet to figure out a way to keep the dust and woodsmoke from getting in there!! i thought about weatherstripping and then drilling small holes in the door that i can put wingnuts on to seal it up, but i wondered what you did to keep your fabrics clean and dirt-free? i live up in the mountains and down a gravel road, so i'm doomed right off the start!! any thoughts would be appreciated!! :)

I've always believed that one should use their home to it's best advantage. My sewing room is in the living room and my living room is in the dinning room. The spare bedroom holds the overload because there is no basement and my dinning furniture is in the kitchen not too far from the laundry so it's handy for folding clothes. I like my arrangement because I'm right in the middle of life in my household so friends, family and neighbors can visit me frequently! I also think fabric looks as nice behind glass as beautiful dinnerware. LOL!
