On another post, people were talking about cleaning out their sewing rooms. Because of the suggestion of adding your stash, machines, tools, etc., to your homeowner's insurance I decided to get more organized, compile an inventory and clean mine up. I was told that the luan wood that I used would not be good for the fabric, but right now it is all I can find to use in this little town. So here are the before (about 1/2 the stash I have now) and after pictures.

Your before and after both look pretty darn organized. I would shudder to show you a picture of my stash!! :)

I just want to raid it! hehe. I agree the before was pretty well organized! However I do like the second one where they are all verticle and easier to get at.

I though that would happen also, but it didn't. I actually got more on each shelf.

What size boards are you using? I am planning something similar. It is a challenge to take the entire stack of fabric down to get the one from the bottom. My fabric is kept in upper cabinets, and being short, I need a ladder. It becomes a balancing act sometimes. -- Sometimes I think I spend more time organizing than sewing.

Basically I let the 4x8' sheet of wood dictate the size. I cut it in half lengthwise, then again in half lengthwise. That gave me 4 - 12 inche boards. Then on the 8' length, I cut 5 of them 14 inches and 2 of them 13 inches. But read earlier on this post and they don't recommend you use wood as the acid will hurt the fabric. I guess you could wrap each piece with saran wrap or something.
