I have a "Treasure" displayed and hanging in my living room ... when people visit, they are in "awe" and thought I'd share it with you.
Story behind it: This is a Crazy Quilt Throw made by my Great-Great-Great Grandmother, Elizabeth (Stewart) Fiedler in the year 1845. All through the years this treasure had been handed down through the family in a pillow case, for safe keeping, generation after generation ..... and my Mother one day passed it on to me, before she passed away. The silk fabrics in places are/were starting to weaken and I had it professionally archival sealed and framed. I sketched and drew out a Family Tree ... making Elizabeth (Stewart) Fiedler the "trunk" of the tree and branched out the family from there. The finished piece measures 56" wide x 64" long. I have another hand pieced/sewn "Postage Stamp Quilt" top she made in the year 1840 .... and will post pictures of that project later. What a blessed idea you had. Framing that beautiful quilt allows it to really be shared with the young people, and brings your ancestor into the present. The addition of the beautiful sketched Tree is genius. What a tribute. And, don't you feel that you know that grandma just a little bit? Be certain to inscribe the back of it with your name and information so that in another 150 years, you, too, will be 'known.' I just love what you've done with this. Magical.
