Family Reunion Hand Print Quilt
5 Attachment(s)
Got the ridiculous idea to make a hand print quilt for our family reunion, last Oct 2016. Everyone who came was invited to add their hand print and signature/name to a white square (backed with wax paper) 65 blocks. 68 X 96" Cotton front and back, wool batting, machine pieced, hand embroidered and hand quilted. Machine wash and dry. It came out quite bright!!!! Just finished the last bit of binding last night!!! A shot of the whole quilt, with Paul on the balcony. I couldn't wait for daylight to get a great picture but it came out pretty good with my phone.

Ridiculous idea? Heck no, this was a stroke of genius! I think the quilt is awesome and you executed it to perfection. I especially love the embroidered tree and that you hand embroidered over all the signatures to preserve them. What a fabulous snapshot of your family history you have created. Can you imagine how thrilling it would be for a family member to discover this quilt 100 years from now?
It also looks like many of your family members got very creative with how they applied the paint to their hands to make the handprint. Ooh edited to add I just saw your photos of the event, it looks like everyone had a lot of fun with this. So many good memories wrapped up in one quilt. |
We are very blessed to have a gorgeous place to have our reunions at our second oldest cousins home. Including lots of room for the kids to run and a lake for the kids to fish. LOL Yikes, just realized I'm the 4th oldest cousin!!!
