We used to have PST (Provincial Sales Tax) and GST (Goods and Services Tax) sur charged onto items when you purchased them. Depended on the category the item was in whether you paid PST and/or GST or neither.

They're gone now. Now it's blended into HST ... and again depends on the category as to whether it's exempt or not. So the price as marked plus 13% HST.

It is a sales tax PLUS Goods and Services tax - in BC it is 14% - it's outrageously expensive living there - I came from there and spent quite a long time there last year - glad to only be paying 7% now - seems like it is more doable. And fabric is priced from $16.00 and up for a meter (39 inches) - so I'm happy with the US prices - for now...............
