Beautiful quilt and Beautiful quilting!!!! Maybe I like the back best! It looks like a white on white.

Lucy90 01-29-2013 05:28 AM

Beautiful quilt and quilting. I'm working on getting my blocks done but the quilting of mine won't be as nice because I do it myself but you gave me some ideas. Very nice.

Sue Wagley-Thompson 01-29-2013 05:34 AM

So beautiful!!!! Be PROUD!!!!!

catladyquilts 01-29-2013 05:48 AM

You both did a fantastic job. I'm still looking at the book wondering weather I want to start it or not, it is a beautiful quilt.

He replied that he thought the stories were interesting looking! I told him not to hold his breath waiting for me to make it!

Don't fear it because you see the big project ... just look at it as one block at a time.

When I started the FWS, I got excited with the completion of each block itself. It was fun just to do each one and for awhile I kept thinking .... a table topper, a wall hanging, a baby quilt, a lap quilt ... it grew and yes, I did the whole thing, plus a few extras!

I really encourage you to do it ... each block is really not that hard to do.

Absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!

LindaR 01-29-2013 06:21 AM

I would use the back as a wholecloth quilt too...absolutely stunning...WOW

JanieH 01-29-2013 06:22 AM

Both the quilt and your quilting are gorgeous! I love the colors and the back of the quilt is so great you could use it on either side!

Whew! I am physically and mentally exhausted after this one! My friend, Meg, pieced this FWS quilt. She is a fairly new quilter. She has only been quilting a couple of years and has tackled some seriously difficult quilts! This was her first attempt at paper piecing too. Due to a few issues, I had to quilt this fairly heavily, but all in all, Meg did a fantastic job on this. Those of you who have done a FWS know there are some wickedly tiny pieces in this quilt.

I quilted each block differently, hence my mental exhaustion. It takes a lot of standing and staring to come up with a different idea that compliments each block. while trying to keep the quilting density evenly distributed! Some blocks I took my cue from the fabric but most I tried to compliment the piecing. There is loads of ruler work, SID, and free hand fills and motifs on this quilt. I did a lot of continuous curves too. Not too much marking in the blocks but I did section off the border and mark my feather spine and the center line for the feather sprays in the setting triangles.

All my work is hand guided, no computer. I quilt on an Innova 26" longarm. This was done with Superior Highlights thread on the top and Superior superbob, prewound bobbins in a light beige color. The batting is fairfield 80/20

Looks great! Love the quilting! I also have a 26" Innova and love it. I hope to do as well as you after more practice.

WOW - what a great quilt and although I'm sure the quilting too some time - it is downright gorgeous. Maybe someday I can quilt that well, one can only hope. Beautiful quilt.

Virginiagirl 01-29-2013 11:52 AM

Amazing work. Just lovely.

DonnaC 01-29-2013 12:40 PM

So lovely! I collected all my fabrics for the FWS Quilt a while back. Was going to participate in making it with a group here on this board, but then my Mom got sick and all quilting plans went on hold. You've given me inspiration to pull all that stuff out and start again. Maybe this will be the first really big project I can finish this year!

wendiq 01-29-2013 12:41 PM

How in the world do you decide on what to quilt in each block? Absoulutely fabulous!!!

jeanharville 01-29-2013 12:51 PM

When I see work like this, I wonder how on earth you can think and then accomplish such beauty. Awesome is a much over used word, but that is the word that fits this. Both your quilting and her piecing are outstanding. Thanks for sharing.

Auntie Em 01-29-2013 02:55 PM

LindaJR 01-29-2013 05:28 PM

I like the back as much as the front. Beautiful work by you both.

hperttula123 01-29-2013 05:49 PM

Love it!!! and so love that you posted a pic of the back. That is always my favorite to look at. I always am checking out the backs of quilts. ;)

QandE2010 01-29-2013 05:55 PM

That is truly a "labor of love". Gorgeous!!!!!

Janquiltz 01-29-2013 06:44 PM

Between the two of you - you have created a real heirloom. Incredible quilting, and the colors in each of the blocks are great. Love those feathers, but the individual machine quilted blocks...words fail me. Wow!

Grandma Peg 01-29-2013 06:52 PM

OMG, the quilt is beautiful and your quilting is outstanding!! Can see why you are exhausted, it's a work of art.

BuzzinBumble 01-29-2013 06:55 PM

You and your friend Meg created a stunning masterpiece! A FWS is a very challenging quilt, both for the piecer and the quilter. I was very intrigued to see how you handled the quilting and am super impressed! What you've done is a glorious accomplishment!
I'm gearing up to start a sampler wedding quilt and am blessed to be able to turn to a wonderful LAQer. When we put our heads together to figure out the quilting, your pictures of how you did it are going to be our inspiration!

NanaBeez 01-29-2013 07:14 PM

Amazing!!! I am really into bright colors and especially reproduction but your quilt makes me want to dig into my millennial stash and see if I have similar. Kudo's and I hope others will appreciate your fine workmanship.

Chris Anders 01-29-2013 07:22 PM
