Feather border done

Feather border is done but now what? Should I just trim an inch off all the way around or sew a scallop echo to fill in the space before the binding?

SusieQOH 12-02-2019 05:08 AM

Tartan, that's gorgeous! I like the idea of the scallop. The space looks like it needs a little something.
Do you quilt on your domestic ? if so it's impressive!

sandrab64 12-02-2019 05:54 AM

Really nice! I like the scallop idea but would echo it 2 or 3 times to fill some space.

nabobw 12-02-2019 05:55 AM

I love it just like it is. Wish I could do that. Anything else would take away from your beautiful feathers.

meyert 12-02-2019 06:40 AM

that is beautiful! I like the idea of scalloped edge.. that will be nice

maryb119 12-02-2019 06:50 AM

I would echo the feathers and then bind.

juliasb 12-02-2019 07:05 AM

I agree with Sandrab64. I love the scallop idea and it would need to echo several times to fill in in all the way. Beautiful feathering.

recycler 12-02-2019 07:17 AM

Very nice! I think you can't go wrong either way!

toogie 12-02-2019 07:40 AM

I love your feathering! Did you use a stencil or free hand? How large is the quilt? I can't wait to see the whole quilt! About the edge. Trim it if you don't need the larger size . If you do I wouldn't over stitch it with echoes or scallops, just perhaps one row of stitching. But that's just MHO and it is your quilt. Do what feels right to you. It will be lovely whatever you decide. Merry Christmas!

Gorgeous feather quilting. I vote for a scalloped edge but do whatever you really like and feel comfortable doing. Thank you for sharing some of your beautiful work

Tweety2911 12-02-2019 08:26 AM

Great job on the feathers. Love the scallop idea.

Diane007 12-02-2019 12:15 PM

Very nice and creative. I am guessing that you did the out side of the feather and then went back and filled in the inside of the feather. :)

Claire123 12-02-2019 02:17 PM

Really beautiful work. I would think very carefully before you trim. I think the scallop idea would be very nice.

Trapunta 12-02-2019 02:27 PM

Great quilting. Whichever way you choose it will be beautiful.

Rhonda K 12-02-2019 04:07 PM

Gorgeous quilting.

If you decide to trim down the border consider the space that binding will take. That way the feathers are centered in the border.

Jingle 12-02-2019 04:33 PM

Beautiful feathers. Finish it to your liking.

sue.ross.8782 12-02-2019 05:36 PM

I like the addition of the scallop. Your feathers are looking fine!:o

catsden 12-02-2019 05:40 PM

I love it and I think the scallop would look good.

LAF2019 12-02-2019 06:39 PM

I like it! What if you did two scalloped echo lines, but then did a small filler between those scallops. so it would go - feather, space, scallop, fill, scallop, space, binding. That might give it a sense of intentional placement, looking like it makes its own second border, instead of just echoing to fill in the area.

AprilM 12-02-2019 07:06 PM

Beautiful!!! The scallop is a great idea - although it would personally scare me to death to actually go through that knowing what * could happen * if i miscalculated and cut off too much! (Bad memories of my “thrifty Mom” days giving haircuts to my two little guys and always cutting off too much hair!!!)

I am sure that you know what you’re doing, so you go for it if you “see” it that way in your mind’s eye. I’m cheering you on! Can’t wait to see the finished quilt!

Great quilting! What about scalloped echo (one or two lines) with dark (fabric-coloured) thread? It will add texture without distracting from gorgeous feathers.

jacqueck 12-03-2019 02:49 AM

Your feathers are lovely. I like the idea of echoing the feathers with a stitched scalloped row (or two). If you decide to do that, I’d cut “binding” fabric three or four inches wide, sew it, right sides together to the front, in the scallop design, trim and turn to the back and hand sew that straight edge. You'd have a lovely scalloped edge to the quilt and it'd "fit" the feathering perfectly. Great job.

illinois 12-03-2019 04:06 AM

I like the scallop but as tight as that is, I'd do it as a facing rather than traditional binding. Otherwise, I'd echo the feathers and do a straight edge binding. Is finished width any determining factor in how you do this?

luvstoquilt 12-03-2019 06:30 AM

It is beautiful just the way it is but a scalloped edge would be nice.

Ellen 1 12-03-2019 09:07 AM

You could do either. I probably would just trim to the space I wanted between the feathers and trim. That gives you plenty of space to make sure it squares up. Love your feathers.

I hope I understood about the scallop. You planned to stitch a scallop right???? Cutting and binding a scallop that small would be a nightmare!!

momsbusy 12-03-2019 09:25 AM

Very nice! I would add the scallop. I’m looking forward to the day that my feathers will be as pretty as yours.

Sharonquilts 12-03-2019 01:00 PM

And to think ... you almost didn't continue with the feathers. Absolutely beautiful. I like the scallop idea.

JustAbitCrazy 12-03-2019 04:41 PM

I wouldn't trim it off and make it smaller, I'd just echo it once or twice with the scallop as you envisioned. It doesn't need to go all the way to the binding. I would try to leave the same amount of space as there is on the other side of the feathers. In the corners there's more room, so you may have to add something else there, maybe some more feathers.

Grandma Peg 12-03-2019 09:39 PM

Absolutely beautiful quilting!

Innov8R 12-04-2019 08:06 AM

I absolutely your feathers and the scallop is even better.

Barbpr 12-04-2019 02:49 PM

Stunning job. And I love the creativity of the scallop. Original and a great finish.

Quilter 65 12-07-2019 07:24 AM

So pretty. What about cutting it narrower and a flange?
