Feathered star take 2

1 Attachment(s)
I made a Christmas FS using paper piecing. This was my first FS and I was intimidated. I liked the results, but did not enjoy removing all those tiny bits of paper.
So. I purchased Marsha McCloskey’s pattern, Vintage Moments. Her pattern was probably written for an experienced FS creator. Not me! I found a tutorial online that walked me through the steps though....

http://sewhappy10000.blogspot.com/20...-tutorial.html

And, it was actually fairly simple to do! Thank you, Molly and Marsha!

Oh wow, I love that!! You say it's fairly simple, but it looks super difficult to me.

Doggramma 01-02-2018 09:25 AM

That's a beautiful block

feline fanatic 01-02-2018 09:26 AM

Beautiful block. FS is on my bucket list. How large is your block?

Macybaby 01-02-2018 09:31 AM

Very nice! I've not been brave enough to try a FS yet, but sure like the way they look.

ekuw 01-02-2018 09:35 AM

Really nice job! I love the fabric you used :-)

Mariposa 01-02-2018 09:44 AM

It was supposed to be 15 1/2”, but it squared up to 15 1/4”.....I am OK with that! Haha.

Stevensgirl 01-02-2018 11:05 AM

Beautiful feathered star!

PaperPrincess 01-02-2018 11:20 AM

This is so beautiful! What a great job

QuiltnNan 01-02-2018 11:42 AM

wow, beautifully done

Kitsie 01-02-2018 11:53 AM

Its lovely! Really nice!! Please look up the fold and sew method for freezer paper piecing! No sewing through paper so no tearing off!
Here is the method I use. (they used to have a briefer tute, but its all the same)

Saves hours of work and the same paper pieces can be used many times! Good wishes for you!

fred singer 01-02-2018 01:27 PM

nicely done

Thank you for the link....looks interesting...will have to add this method to my list. I am hoping that trying new techniques will help keep my brain cells active! :)

Great looking block

MarionsQuilts 01-02-2018 05:53 PM

That's is awesome. I would much rather do the paper piecing lol

Blueridgebeverly 01-02-2018 06:04 PM

Your block is gorgeous.

quilter1430 01-02-2018 08:11 PM

Love it! And thanks for the link. It's a block on my to-do list. I like the colors you used too.

luvstoquilt 01-03-2018 05:24 AM

Hmmm! I am thinking it might need to go on my list which is now about as long as my leg! I love your block and your choice of colors. I have a book showing it in red and white made by Kit Carson's mother. (Just an interesting piece of trivia)

SusieQOH 01-03-2018 05:27 AM

That's a gorgeous block!
I signed up for a PP class on Craftsy. I think her name is Peggy Martin or something like that. I'm terrible at it so I could use the help! :)

mcdaniel023 01-03-2018 07:31 AM

I love feathered stars and I love your block! Thanks for the link to an easier method.

Super block. Thanks for the link. BrendaK

quilterpurpledog 01-06-2018 04:36 AM

Beautiful block! I am glad you thought it relatively easy. I think FS is one of those blocks or medallions all quilters want to do on their quilt journey-it is just iconic. It is still on my list.

NZquilter 01-06-2018 04:54 AM

So impressive! I admire anyone brave enough to attempt the feathered star pattern!

That is beautiful. Perfect fabric choices, too, for that to just pop.
