Hi, all! I was following another thread here recently about a FW (Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine) that someone's DH was giving her for Christmas. I am curious about these little gems, and would love to hear your stories and see your pictures.
I have a couple of them, for a total cost of $40. Bought one at a yard sale for $35. Yes, my hand was shaking as I handed over the cash. And for the other, a guild was having a fundraiser, and I bought 6 tickets for $5 and won! Tell your story, post your pictures! ain't she sweet? |
Beautiful! I sew with a lady that has a purple one.
Very pretty!!
Shes not only sweet but is a lovely color! Have fun.
You are just stinking lucky! And I'm glad for you. That is the prettiest little machine I've seen! And the price just makes them glow!
I'm so jealous...red is my favorite color. I'd love to have one just like yours.
She's gorgeous! You got a great deal too. If I ever see one at that price I'd grab it in a heartbeat. I love mine. I use it all the time!
How cute is that!!!!!! Mine is black with some chips but I love it just the same.
Awesome! I have a table for one of them but I don't have the machine yet.
What a beauty!
WOW!! She is a beauty!! :D:D:D

Mine is the first machine I owned. It was bought second hand from the Singer dealer for $200 in 1960. He told me at the time whenever I wanted to trade it in, I would get $200 trade-in . I was thrilled to death to have my very own machine, and I never even considered trading it in, that baby has done leather car upholstery, sofa upholstery, drapery and clothing galore. Still wouldn't part with it, and it is still worth what I paid. The only sign of use is where I had wrapped a wool band around it to stick pins into,, the darn pins made little scratches.

What a lovely machine. I don't have one but would love one.
I'm curious about the colours...I've only seen black ones on ebay here...do they come in various colours or have these coloured ones been repainted? They look great |
OMG, I have a black one, but would love it if were red...or purple! Can't imagine finding one at such a price. I was tickled to death with the one I have, but can't imagine finding such a deal as you have.
Thanks for sharing, and enjoy your little beauty! |
What a beautiful machine. I just love the red color. I want one so badly since joining this board and hearing everything people here say about them. I am hoping my son can come through for one for Christmas.
WOW! That's the prettiest machine I've ever seen. Lucky you.

My FW was a Christmas present from my parents in 1968 while I was in nursing school. Found the receipt that Mom paid $50 for it at $10 per week. I've sewed everything from my wedding dress to car upholstery on mine. I'll never get rid of it.

sorry for the double post-computer problems

My FW was a college graduation gift in 1973, from my parents. Since I was not a sewing person I've not used it a lot and I bought a new machine when I started quilting. I will never get rid of it and someday it will go to my daughter.
I thought maybe I had mine the longest, but I see a couple people have bet me on that. Oh and I also own my mother's 301a which she bought new. I know they are not as popular as Featherweights, but still vintage and well-liked by their owners. Nancy |
She is stunning! Lady in red!!

Isn't this one cute? I saw it at a quilt store in Twin Falls, Idaho last summer. Just for kicks, I asked what she would sell it for - $1200.
I bought one in the early 60s and sewed for 4 kids on it. Paid $50 for it and it is almost used up, now retired. Now I sew on my late daughter's FW.
Never knew that they came in red. Yours is gorgeous!

The originals came in black, tan and celery. I think that is correct.
They also came in White. If placed next to the light green you can really see the green tint.
My jaws dropped at seeing the red one! Wowee !! Glad u got it and won the other one! They originally came in black, white and tan....I have 1 black and 1 white. Looking for 1 more for another GD to leave for in will.......
