Way COOL! Glad you were there to save the unifroms. I bet that will be one VERY warm quilt. :D

The quilt is beautiful! I think using recycled materials makes it extra special. I bet it is really warm too.

Absolutely LOVE the quilt. Did the wool felt up nicely after only one washing and drying? I have "re-used" some old wool uniforms for vests, and other garments, but have had to go thru several cycles in the washer and dryer before the wool was really felted nicely.
I love the creativity of this one.........fabric placement.....even the thread used to tie the quilt........... Will you post a pic of the back of the quilt too? Would love to see it. |
I love using felted wool. I buy wool clothes at the thrift stores, cut it apart and wash it in hot water. I make a wool quilt a few year ago, I call it the ugly quilt, because I don't like the colors. It sure keeps us warm. I did not use batting, just backed it with flannel. One mistake I did make was to bind it in a light weight wool. It's a little scratchy. I plan to rebind it this year with flannel. Need to get on the that job right away.

Newby0709 I love your quilt. For being self taught you did a great job. I like to recyle too. I use old blue jeans to make a lot of things.

Newby, that's a great quilt. It will be around for a long, long time. Did you make a label explaining the history of the uniforms? Hope your family will take care of it. Thanks for posting pics.
