Field of Diamonds lap quilt
1 Attachment(s)
One of my UFOs is a large quilt in the Field of Diamonds pattern. A few days back, I saw an F&P show suggesting using their special ruler to cut half hexagons, which could be sewn together in strips with no Y seams. I don't worry about Y seams, but I decided to try the idea. I cut a template from old XRay film. This lap quilt was the result. I think I may do another oversized GFG variant this way. I enjoyed this one.

This looks great. I was introduced to this 1/2 Hex by a friend on QB the other day and have plans to try one. Yours is beautiful.

Thank you. I had a lot of fun with these batiks.

you did a nice job!!!
Beautiful, what a great idea. I will have to try that.
This is so pretty! The red fabric really adds the definition in this quilt.
I hate y seams, but I like your quilt a lot.
Very good job on this one. I don't do complicated patterns, I guess I am too lazy.
I have the half hex, I'll have to try it, yours came out real nice. love the colors, thanks for sharing.
Great quilt and fabrics.
I love this quilt!
Wonderful job, I really like it!!!!
This is fabulous! I saw that F & P show, too, & was quite intrigued with the technique. I'd rather have teeth pulled than do Y seams, so I may have to try this. Especially if my quilt could look anything like your beauty!
i like it. It looks like a painting.
Beautiful....

Burchquilts, I don't see any reason why yours should not look as good. Actually, the reason I did this as a half hex is because I thought I would take it to my guild and suggest it as a spring retreat project. Many members of the guild are afraid of branching out. I have a plan for another that is a half hex star.
Of course, it really helps if you use dramatic fabrics. I love batiks for that reason. |
