Finalement Fini!

1 Attachment(s)
Good morning,

After my message earlier this week i push lots and finally finish the quilt.
It's nothing fancy, very simple, but i am happy with it even with mistakes.
For my first quilt and only second time i use the machine it turn out way better then i expect.

Now to put the machine in storage. It was a good challenge but i don't think i do another any time soon.

Thanks again for the answer. You were right. 4 1/2" was ok.
Merci!

That is a really pretty quilt. Sorry you are “one and done”.

QuiltnNan 11-09-2019 04:26 AM

It turned out great. Congrats on your finish. I hope that you won't give up on quilting.

aashley333 11-09-2019 04:53 AM

Great! Reminds me of the quilt that hooked me into quilting. I bet you get another idea and make another one.:o

juliasb 11-09-2019 04:59 AM

Very nicely done. You may not have been bitten by the bug at this time but it is an experience you can share with others and who knows???

Sprocket 11-09-2019 05:26 AM

Juliasb, that's for sure.
I posted picture to facebook and a few friends are laughing, other are asking for me to make one. haha!

Anyhow, I probably do another when I need to.
Or maybe in Janvier/Fevrier when its -40. lol

For now I stick to what I know. Welding, carpentry, mechanique generale.

I look at some of the quilt made here and can't believe the talent!
nabobw (wow! just wow!!!!!!), aashley333, and foutola are just three I seen that blow my mind.
I don't even want to think of the hours spent!
I know mine is very simple but I post anyway because people ask when answering my silly question. (Merci for that everyone!)

Next time I try something more then just squares.
This one was good practice to learn the machine and the many way it can mess up.

Just Me... 11-09-2019 05:27 AM

It's beautiful.

SusieQOH 11-09-2019 05:30 AM

Sprocket, your quilt is beautiful!!! My first quilt was not something I'd show anyone :D

Tartan 11-09-2019 05:34 AM

Great quilt and it sounds like you have a lot of other things to keep you busy but quilting will still call your name!

LAF2019 11-09-2019 05:40 AM

That is a fabulous quilt! I think you did a great job!

Homespun 11-09-2019 06:49 AM

That is a great quilt!

bearisgray 11-09-2019 06:52 AM

I like it - sometimes I think the "simpler" quilts are just as striking - and certainly just as warm - as some of the very "intricate/complicated" quilts.

And you finished it!!!! Congratulations!

Sharonquilts 11-09-2019 01:23 PM

You did a great job. Hopefully you will just take a break and start another after the holidays.

BSKTLOFR-QUILTER 11-09-2019 02:52 PM

You're on a roll so don't put that machine away!! This is a beautiful quilt. There is something to be said for simplicity.

Sprocket ... Mes Felicitations!
Enjoy your quilt!! and be proud of your accomplishment.
I love the tonal mix of fabrics. Your work is well done with the seams matching incredibly well.

Don't let your friends discourage you. Sounds like you stretched beyond their normal expectations for you. Maybe there is some jealousy amidst their laughter, that you did what they cannot or will not try? So good for you!!

Allow yourself a bit of a break ... then yes, after Christmas, quilt #2 is yours to make!
Bonne Chance! :)

Jingle 11-09-2019 05:21 PM

Your quilt is beautiful. Just keep making quilts and before you know it every one of them will look better.
No one ever made anything without mistakes the first time. I gave up trying for perfection. I just try to be accurate on cutting, sewing and pressing. I have made about 3 or 4 hundred quilts and not a perfect one in the bunch. They are still pretty and warm. Practice, practice, practice.

This is exactly what I think too!

Sprocket, that is a sophisticated, modern looking quilt in your black and white fabrics. Simple squares are very appealing, and many accomplished quilters still make them for their homeyness.

Please don't stop now. You did so well for a first time quilter. Take a break and then make another. You will be more
relaxed because you have learned on the first one.

There was a time I would have answered you in French, but 'pas maintenant"! Mon francais est tres mal parce que j'ai 54 ans . Quand en universite (1983-87) c'est fraise, mais longtemps le sans, je parle un peu et drole, oui?

Sprocket 11-09-2019 07:43 PM

Thank you again everyone for the kind comment.

I may have mention mistakes but I'm happy with it even so.
I leave some mistake in as a reminder for next time to slow down, plan, and apply my general rule "If you ever say that's good enough, it's time to stop for the day because tomorrow you wont be happy with good enough"

I do have my eye on one more project now since I decide this one is going to the maple camp.
But there is no pattern so... Time for some work in autocad.
My wife laugh an says this is turning into a monster. haha

Love your quilt and the black and white blocks together are very striking. May I use your inspiration as a guide to using up some of my own black and white fabrics. Please do not give up quilting, you are very good at it. Thank you for sharing your work with all of us.

pocoellie 11-10-2019 05:35 AM

Sprocket-you did a great job on the quilt. Please don't give up now.

lorimax5859 11-10-2019 06:08 AM

I think your quilt is lovely!

2manyhobbies 11-11-2019 05:27 AM

You know what a good quilting project is just to keep sharp and practice new ideas? Quilts for NICUs and children’s hospitals. They aren’t big...NICUs want them no bigger than 36x36. I switched to do doing that because I’ve made enough big quilts and we now live in a condo with less bedrooms. I love working with colorful panels and fabrics and it makes families and children very happy. Yours is lovely by the way!

Billy'swife 11-11-2019 08:30 AM

Your quilt is lovely!! So happy you pushed on and completed it. So many get discouraged and never finish what they started. Who knows when you might be inspired to create another?

habell07 11-11-2019 09:51 AM

Love the black and white. You have inspired me to make a black/white quilt.

Patricia Drew 11-11-2019 03:03 PM

Félicitations! Très beau travail!

I sure hope you don't store that sewing machine too far away ... I can see though that you have many other hobbies.

rilene 11-11-2019 05:09 PM

Bravo ! C'est merveilleux, surtout pour une première fois !

Iceblossom 11-12-2019 08:03 AM

It's an excellent first project! Come back to the board or quilting whenever you are ready.

There are CAD like programs specifically for quilting, many of us use Electric Quilt. Sometimes I can satisfy that day's desire to quilt by playing with the program instead, it makes it easy to determine finished sizes, pieces, easily switch colors or find out the many "what ifs" we are confronted with.

carolynjo 11-12-2019 01:39 PM

I agree that jealousy might sort of tinge their comments. Keep quilting and let no one keep you down!

sue.ross.8782 11-12-2019 02:03 PM

Well done. I'm sorry that you don't want to continue. :(

Jordan 11-12-2019 03:56 PM

Very nice quilt and sorry to hear you are discouraged. Maybe if you made some small projects you would enjoy that better.
