I finally did some re arranging today. I move some stuff out of the extra bedroom and moved my sewing stuff in. I think I will be much more comfortable than when I had to lug things from this room to the dining room.

I also went to see my aunt yesterday. Talk about my lucky day! She gave me a ton of fabric - all togehter at least 30 yards, books, and the best a serger! One of the older heavy duty metal ones. I was suprised when the foot pedal was not plastic!! She is very crafty and although she has 10 kids of her own, none are into sewing at all. I totally lucked out with the hobby!

Here are pictures of my new room - sorry no before pictures - but it was more of an office before, and the things my aunt gave me yesterday.

I love lighting - so some are taken without flash. I also collect elephants so those are what the little lamps on the desk are.

Marilyn Woolley 05-18-2010 05:32 PM

Wow what a great sewing room

MamaBear61 05-18-2010 05:36 PM

Your room looks great and the things your aunt sent home with you are fantastic. Have fun!

thequilteddove 05-18-2010 05:37 PM

Great space! Not only do you have a window (I suffer from window envy), you have a place to take a nap when you get carried away on a sewing bing!

clem55 05-18-2010 05:41 PM

Everything looks so nice!! I was surprised how well a computer desk works for a sewing desk. Good thinking on that one! But, if I can give a little sadvice???? Best if you put a little curtain over your fabric bookcase so the sun and light from the window doesn"t cause fading. The quilt I made for my hubby's bed , off to the side of a window that got afternoon sun, faded out on just the top corner near the window. So don't take the chance!!

quilt4fun 05-18-2010 06:39 PM

Congratulations on having your own space. It looks wonderful. I find my guest bed as a great place to begin placing blocks. Enjoy!

Melody 05-18-2010 06:40 PM

It's so organized! And a whole room for sewing stuff. I am planning on doing the same idea as soon as school is out. I am going to rearrange my office into a real for sure enough sewing room.
Congratulations!!

quiltingfan 05-18-2010 06:48 PM

It looks great.... now mess it up with all your projects.. LOL

quilt4fun 05-18-2010 07:15 PM

Yes, it is okay to mess up your sewing room.

sharon b 05-18-2010 08:26 PM

I love your wall hangings  The room looks perfect  A place for everything

annieshane 05-18-2010 08:32 PM

I would be so excited with such a clean room I wouldn't want to leave it ever. Re: the fabric cabinet, I used a cheapo tension rod and a light weight fabric to make curtains for my fabric bins. When you want to look just remove the curtain entirely or throw curtain to side while you are using it. Works great?

Pickles 05-18-2010 09:22 PM

Beatiful room and fabric and I love the Serger, I would go and get me a piece of plywood and that way you could lay in on the bed to put your cutting matt on it , thats what I do, and it works fine for me as a cutting out area.
Happy sewing

Linda B 05-18-2010 09:31 PM

Great room, but it's too clean!!!!!!!!!! Mine never looks so neat, even after I clean it up!

AnnieF 05-19-2010 08:23 AM

Oh my goodness.....you have the exact Toyota serger that I bought off Craigs List on Sunday. You're right....it is an old workhorse with metal parts....and that's what I liked about it. Is yours in working order? Did your Aunt show you how to use it? I'm working completely blind here and even though I'm looking at the "quick threading" guide, haven't quite figured it out. And apparently nothing works if you don't get the threading right! Any advice?

stitchhappy 05-19-2010 09:48 AM

I have that serger too! Bought the floor model in 1992 and absolutely love it. I've only had to have it worked on one time, when I hit a pin and it threw the timing off. Other than that, it's been a dream. Everytime I use it I'm fascinated again at how it works. They are so neat.

WooHoo!! now the fun can really begin! Have you thought of building a sturdy cutting table a little shorter than the length of the bed and a little wider, so the cutting table legs do not interfere with any part of the bed and headboard?

littlehud 05-19-2010 07:51 PM

What a great room. You sure got a lot of fabric from your aunt. I love the serger. It was a great day for you. Thanks for sharing your room with us.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Looks great. From Ikea, I bought a piece of furniture with 6 cuby holes across and 5 down and put all my fabric in it, each one with differnt types of fabric, linen, wool, cotton, ect. it works great and was not that expensive. But I like the idea of hanging a rod with cotton sheets or curtains across the froot to save on dust and shading from the sun. thanks for that. your room looks nice!
