Patty,
Your jacket is lovely! Do wear it out. People will compliment you all over the place and want to know where they can get one just like it.

Quilted jackets are a hot item. If you decide towear it in public, hold on to it really really hard. Something that cute is liable to be snatched right off your back :!: :D

Country Quilter 11-28-2007 05:27 AM

The only reason I WOULDN'T wear it is because so many people would want me to make them one too!!! Its gorgeous!!!

Rebecca Chambley 11-28-2007 06:41 AM

it is the 'I can't believe it's a sweatshirt' pattern by Back Porch Press. Start with a sweatshirt and sew all of the little 'patches' onto it. Nothing is prewashed. Using 100% cotton thread. It looks pretty cool after you wash it. I had all of the Christmas fabric in my stash. and i got the sweatshirt at Big Lots for $4!

:-)

ShellyQ 11-30-2007 03:04 AM

That is gorgeous, it's so fun and colourful  . My vote: you should definately show it off :P

Yvonne 11-30-2007 09:49 AM

I had to go look again. I had NO idea it was a sweatshirt in the beginning. You have disguised it very well! What a very clever idea.

BDor 11-30-2007 02:34 PM

Is this made out of a sweatshirt? I have been wanting to do one of those.
Love yours. Wear it proudly.

Would you please share your pattern or even do a tutorial for those who also would like to make one? Our "To-do" list always needs new ideas. This is a great one.

I am wanting to know especially if your used the method where you sewed the fabrics to the shirt, then folded them and sewed another piece to make a strip? Guess that is not clear, but I bet you can tell us how you made it.

We will all need a jacket for Spring! Ah! Spring. Will it come soon enough??
Get your jackets ready girls. Then we can have a fashion show.

fab, this is a fab-ulous jacket. did you wash the sweatshirt before working on it? they seem to shrink some. just wondered. it would be great if you could do a class for us. (whine)

fabricluvr 12-29-2007 09:34 AM

thanks for the compliments ladies! yes, it started as an unwashed sweatshirt (2 sizes too large, $4 at big lots) and a variety of unwashed Christmas fabrics and cotton thread (3 spools!).

yes, June, it would be pretty in spring prints!

i don't think i can legally share/copy the pattern here, but basically it's rectangles of fabric stitched onto the sweatshirt (after you cut it open). the pattern is by Back Porch Press and this is their website.

nanobirdmo - i'm a TERRIBLE teacher :( you wouldn't want me to try. but the pattern/instruction is very easy to follow!

nanabirdmo 12-29-2007 01:26 PM

okay, fab,(this is me pouting)
but thanks for the link

I found this in my Bookmarks and thought I would send it along for anyone interested. Since it was posted on this open site, I don't think there is any problem offering it as information for others.

Then I found this one.
