What a handsome "buddy" you have. And I am glad to see a young man taking up quilting. He is adorable. I hope my daughter will one day want to learn.

What a great story. You must be very proud. The future of quilting is in good hands.

I put my GSs on my lap and they sewed with me when they were three. I operated the foot pedal for a while, then they got the hang of it. They are nine and thirteen now and we still sew when we get together. The older one even blind stitched one whole side of binding on one of his quilts. Both of my sons wanted to sew, and still can. Now the girl was a problem. She couldn't sit still long enough but now that she is a thousand miles away, she wants to sew. And of course needs help.

kids and animals know a good thing, can't keep either one away from a quilt...

Teach him how to thread the sewing machine for sewing and for bobbin winding - while it is off, of course. That will help him feel competent and accomplished.

I let my then 6 year old nephew push the foot pedal while I sewed, and he loved it. At the time I had a 1970's Kenmore mechanical that you could lift the top up to watch the gears move. That's what he really liked about it.

You could probably let him push the pedal while you actually wind the bobbin.

I like his sewing table, by the way. Clever idea and just right for him!

Enjoy!

He's adorable, you are so good to let him try sewing, I know it means a lot of work and patience for you but is such a big thing to kids. I remember when my Dear Aunt brought me to work with her when I was 9, she was a waitress in a tiny restaurant. She let me take the order and write in on the pad, I will never forget that day, I even remember what they ordered!! ( I am 61 years old now)

You can also buy them sewing cards for kids with big ole plastic needles, but they love them. He is so cute.

Wonderful. This is what memories are made of. Such a cutie and working so hard. Please give him a big hug for me. BrendaK

Very handsome young man. Love when boys are allowed to do anything creative.

Such a beautiful child. It would be awesome to see him now -- three years later.
