After starting one quilt top after another just to stop for one reason or another I am finally committed! And very excited for the first time in quite a while. Our bedroom is green, gold, and red. Finally I am listening to my DH and working with larger blocks. I need more practice cutting and measuring before I get to anything fancy!

Very nice, love the textures fabric, tone on tone. what are you going to use for borders?

cminor 01-16-2010 06:11 PM

Well, my husband likes it as is - so he is hoping to just go with the colors we have. But I am thinking maybe a brown . .

Looks great and love the colors!

very nice selection...you did a good job matching and keeping the tones even. You will love it when it's quilted. If you can afford it, I'd send it out to a Longarmer...you will be able to get some beautiful quilting on it, which will show beautifully against those fabrics. You won't regret it!

Your corners are nicely matched, so you are doing a very good job. Keep going till it's finished...even if you slow down some, just commit to finishing. You'll be so glad you did.

Beautiful colors, but maybe your husband is right... maybe those colors are enough. I personally like quilts like this that are done right to the edge and don't have borders!

QuiltingGrannie 01-18-2010 05:16 AM

I wouldn't add any other color to it. Make it simple and very pretty. Love those colors together. Where did you get the fabric, those colors would work in the southwestern quilt my husband wants me to make.

Bevanger 01-18-2010 07:05 AM

Very pretty

Thanks!!! I got the fabric from Walmart. . .after spending an hour waking back and forth - back and forth . . then just got 1/2 yard of each. Now I have to go get more :)

After the quilt top is together you will know if you want a border or not
and what color. Some quilts call for a border and some are lovely without.
I also like to decide on the binding after the top is done ~ the color makes such a big difference. What you are doing with the colors looks great!

I think I have that same green from Walmart and just want to say be careful and bring a sample when you go get more. I've found that they have two different variations of this same fabric and one is darker than the other. To the point where I thought one piece of fabric had faded drastically. I found the right shade at a different Walmart, but just wanted to give you a heads up. I got the two different ones from teh same Walmart at different times.

i think your husband right it look nice as is ,love your colors

Thanks MNQuilter. I did go get more and did take some small pcs with to be sure. Good thing - my husband thought I had the wrong bolt and I had to pull the pcs out and show him. I am not very scientific with my yardage. I know now I over estimated - but when I bought the rest of the gold color I was worried I would not have enough. It turned out ok though. I got it all cut and laid you last weekend - now I just have to find the time to do the fun part - sewing!

Lovely colors. I like it. Personally, I wouldn't add any other colors to the main part of the quilt.

You can always wait until you've finished the main part and then decide if you want a border.
