I am going to make this quilt for my 90 year old grandmother who just loves quilting and rainbows. She saw her first double rainbow this past summer. My question is this...does anyone know where to get fabric bundles in color groups?? I need 1/4 yard cuts. But I need 4 shades of each color, i.e. purples, reds, blues. I don't have a great selection in my area so I'm on the hunt online. I've found plenty fqs but not by the yard. I would love batiks but I know that would raise the $$$. Any help would be great. Thanks!!!

What a beautiful quilt!!
As far as buying the fabric on line, look for batiks, blenders, marbled blenders, etc. You might also check out online quilt kits. :D |
Fabric Hut on Little Creek Road in Norfolk......go down Military Highway toward Little Creek Road.....hang a right and it is in the shopping center on the left. When you see the Sonic Drive in you're there.
Caution: Addicting and you'll feel like a kid in a candy shop.....lol! It's my favorite! |
Yeah, I like going there too. Nice selection. Have you ever gone to Sarah's Thimble on West Great Neck? I go there all the time. I do most of the store samples. They have a great Long Arm service too.
|
Yes I have been to Sarah's Thimble and to the one in Kempsville also. One day I will venture to the quilt shops in Chesapeake and Suffolk.....lol. I just really like the selection at Fabric Hut but Sarah's is a close second.

I have had great luck with Hancock's of Paducha (sp). You must buy 1/2 yard or better, I like Kona cotton but Moda marble is also nice

Wow...I love Batik Wheel Dance Quilt Kit...that is a stunner!

That's a very pretty pattern. You could try the Hoffmann 1895 fabrics, or Moda Marbles. At www.webfabrics.net you can buy FQs of any color. The prices are very reasonable and the shipping very quick!

This is going to be another gorgeous
quilt!! :D I will be anxiously waiting to see what you come up with!! :D :D :D :D :D |
you VA beach people are killing me. I LOVE Sandbridge- we vacationed there for years before the kids starting going off to college, etc.
I want to go back next year for vacation. And truthfully- I want to move there- permanently. I hate the PA winters. I was meant to have sand between my toes, not snow under my boots. |
Okay I love the pattern and I know your dilemma. I would suggest that you buy a whole bunch of white fabric (whatever you want) and dye packs.
Just dye your gradations in each of the colors. I did this last year for a twisted triangle (from Simply Quilts show). There was a great link on dying a few days ago and the OP of that link did a fantastic job. Worth a try :) :) |
you might want to check out the fabric line by Blank called Shade Cascade. it would be perfect for this quilt design.
its by karen combs and it has 4 shades of the color across the width of the fabric. here's a link to the fabric line and if you go to quiltshops.com and type shade cascade sale into the search box you'll find the online shops that have it on sale http://www.blankquilting.com/NewestC...llections.aspx |
Can't help you any more than the others....but have to comment. That's a gorgeous quilt! Has anyone noticed the quilting has a sun in the yellow area!!!???!! WOW!
