Finger saver
1 Attachment(s)
I've begun a rather large hand quilting project and find my index finger gets sore quickly from pulling the needle through the quilt. I'm not using a thimble yet to push the needle as I haven't found one that fits right. However, at guild meeting yesterday a friend recommended Finger Cots....little latex things that roll down over your finger and wow, do they ever help get a grip on the needle!! Found them at Walgreen's in the bandaid/bandage department but they're probably available at any drug store.

Did not know these were for sale. Finger condoms/bandages/whatever. Oh the jokes that will be made with these!
Thanks for the tip I will have to get them.

I buy a box of vinyl exam gloves and cut off the fingertips. I, too, do not use a thimble and find these very helpful with the grip on the needle.
Great idea, I can't use a thimble, maybe these will help
:DFinger condoms! I love it! I think I'll go into the drugstore and ask for them that way.

Everyone MUST practice safe sewing!

Oh my....all of these comments are hilarious! Thanks for this superb tip.
Just repackage these for a gift to a friend who you want to send a gag gift to. For someone with a little problem. I've got to get some of these just to give away!
Great find! Thanks ....
What a chuckle, lol, but going to check them out, I try using a thimble, put in on one finger and will use a different one everytime. lol

Michael's also sells a package of fingertip protectors, similar to those used by secretaries who handle papers. They are heavier duty than the fingercots, but I have used both for years. I always give my beginning quilting students some and that always breaks them up!
TOO funny! I must get some of those! Save sewing OMG!!!
These are also great for FMQ...with all the hot flashes.....I mean power surges I get...whole gloves just make me hot...so these little finger cots give me grip without the heat!
All jokes aside, I was having trouble finding a thimble to fit, DH kept listening to me complain about the painful indent in my fingure. He took it on himself to find a solution and he come home with the same but orange and available in
the Office supply shops, they are a smooth finger cots used for turning pages or in banks for counting notes. They do work. I said thankyou and so did my finger. |
Great find!

You gals crack me up........... Thanks for the laugh and I will practice safe sewing........ and of course I will pass this info to other quilters.........lol

Wish I could get some of these, nothing like that for sale over here. My fingers are so large I can't find a thimble to fit! Yeah! size matters:)
I have used both the finger cots and the rubber fingers that you can purchase at any office supply store. I always used them when I was grading papers and finally realized that they would be great for sewing. They both work...just try them and see which one works best for you. Sometimes I put a rubber finger on the hand that is under the quilt...stops the needle pricks without having to wear a thimble.
