Finished Challenge Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
First I want to say I do not post very often but I do browse everyday! Morning coffee and Quilting Board. Thank you all for my mornings..LOL

Not a very good picture but ......here it is anyway. Two friends and I gave ourselves a challenge to make an Irish Chain quilt but we could not purchase any fabric - had to use what we had. Didn't think this through and sort of run out of fabric. Calling it Flight Over Irish Mist. If I name it I get to call it done. LOL

Thanks for looking,

osewme 05-17-2017 02:59 PM

What a great challenge & you made a very pretty quilt top using what you had. I really like what you did. I love the Irish Chain pattern. Thanks for sharing. You need to post more often!

helou 05-17-2017 03:02 PM

This is really cute and unique! very creative!
Bravo!
How did you applique the flowers. Can you tell I don't do much appliques. It will be a next step in my learning curve!
I am the same: morning coffee and QB. A nice way to start the day

popover 05-17-2017 03:34 PM

Pretty spectacular answer to a challenge! You win!

GEMRM 05-17-2017 03:57 PM

I really like this, and your "adjustment" to the typical Irish Chain is very nice. I find the usual Irish Chain a little boring, but yours is very interesting.

redquilter 05-17-2017 04:40 PM

You're very clever and imaginative. Beautiful quilt.

Sandra in Minnesota 05-17-2017 04:50 PM

You are very creative, and the quilt turned out lovely!

it looks great... love that it fades to pale in the upper right

Homespun 05-18-2017 04:08 AM

Wow, you have made a beautiful challenge quilt!

twinkie 05-18-2017 04:31 AM

I simply love how this turned out. Great job.

bailey 05-18-2017 06:27 AM

Thanks everyone. If anyone has any ideas on how to quilt this please share.

QuiltnNan - Far right fading was a result of poor planning. I ran out of colors that matched. LOL

helou - The applique will be raw edge - guess it is not finished yet but close!

One of the other women used all batiks in teal colors on white background and set it on pointe. Looks great.
The other is still struggling - (read as hasn't even cut fabric yet but has picked out colors). LOL

very unique quilt, love the pattern

luvstoquilt 05-18-2017 06:54 AM

Love it and you are really creative!

Kitsie 05-18-2017 07:09 AM

Really like that!! I like the way the scattered 9-patches show so well on the background, also the swallows and flowers.

Mariposa 05-18-2017 07:11 AM

Very pretty! A unique idea for adding the swallows and flowers. :)

ArtsyOne 05-18-2017 11:08 AM

How imaginative! You've brought a simple Irish Chain up to an entirely new level. Really a great idea.

Quilter 65 05-18-2017 03:13 PM

So very delicate and pretty.

copycat 05-19-2017 02:54 AM

Congrats on being done! I like your fabric choices and placement of dark and light blocks...very creative! Adding the applique to the light side really changed the look of the quilt. I, also am part of the morning coffee and QB group! Thanks for sharing your quilt with us!

Sew Freak 05-19-2017 04:25 AM

nice IC quilt from scraps...never would have thought to make one in scraps.....very nice!!!

sewnclog 05-19-2017 04:44 AM

Very cute quilt; I'm with bailey - never posted pics but LOVE going through all the posts with a cup of coffee (as like now!)

KathyJ 05-19-2017 05:47 AM

Without seeing the others, I agree you win. Very creative. Love Irish Chains & yours is lovely. Great setting in dividing the sky & land with the dark chain. Makes a very interesting quilt. Kathy

salederer 05-19-2017 06:51 AM

Beautiful quilt! Love the pastels.

carolynjo 05-19-2017 07:41 AM

That's a real winner. Could you show us the other challengers' quilts as well? I love the freedom feeling in your quilt.

QUILTNMO 05-19-2017 11:31 AM

very nice job!!!

Taughtby Grandma 05-19-2017 12:09 PM

I would call it beautifully done.

quilterpurpledog 05-19-2017 01:44 PM

Very interesting quilt and such an artistic approach to a traditional pattern. Very nicely done.

sJens 05-19-2017 02:01 PM

That is a really cute quilt---love everything about it.

Yooper32 05-20-2017 03:43 AM

I think that you have created a "magical miracle", it is light and airy and fit for fairies.

Mousie 05-22-2017 05:26 AM

beautiful quilt! like your tag line, also :D

JanieH 05-22-2017 08:00 AM

I would never have thought that you ran out of fabric by looking at your quilt. It looks like it was beautifully and creatively designed!

busy fingers 05-22-2017 01:34 PM

Great improvisation.

Judith1005 05-22-2017 04:18 PM

I like it. I love the improvisation. I'm not fused over the color changes. Especially as you challenged each other to use only what you had on hand. I think the changes and additions make it interesting.

My suggestion on quilting, A simple crosshatch. But, NOT through the appliques. I would go right up to them but, not through them.

I give it two :thumbup: !! And, bonus, it sounds like you had fun making it.
