Finished first applique project (just in time for Christmas)
 

While having our house built over the past year, I got to know a couple of quilters where we were renting. One was a big fan of applique and suggested this project for last year's holiday effort. Well, I did get the materials, but never did get set up to sew anything.

I've never done any applique before, so had to buy a book to learn. I know I made mistakes along the way, or perhaps let's call them "modifications" to the techniques, but I am thrilled that I finally finished this and barely in time for Christmas. Boy, that was a lot of quilting in a small space!

Thank you so much! Do you mean the stems? I used the Karen Kay Buckley "perfect stems" tools and a stitch-in-the-ditch foot to stitch close to the "stem". That's what Betty, my applique-talented neighbor, recommended. I had to watch the YouTube videos to figure out how to use them.

The binding on the perimeter is Charisma's flanged binding tutorial. I've used it on every quilt I've made since learning about it a couple of years ago.

Thank you! Mr. and Mrs. Claus are 57 years old this Christmas :) They were made for my first Christmas by my parents' next door neighbor.

And thank you everyone for the generous compliments! This one was quite the learning experience - freezer paper, monopoly thread, teeny tiny 1mm by 1mm zig zag stitching. Thank goodness for Kim Diehl's books (which were recommended to me by my rental neighbor).
