nativetexan 12-27-2010 11:22 AM

i sat and figured out how to do the second one, it's a nine patch, with two being hst's! great. I can do that. i saw two others here too that i think i can do. i'll put the print outs with a couple of others i got for future reference.
great quilts

cwessel47 12-27-2010 11:30 AM

I love them both. The off center placement of the split nine patch is great. Just did one centered - might have to try it your way too!

KatFish 12-27-2010 12:14 PM

The 2nd one is from the McCall's Quilting magazine-May/June 2010 issue, it is called Paradigm Shift. It is very easy to make, I'm making one for my oldest daughter now, with purple.

great quilts

It is really not a 9 patch. You use 2 strips 3 1/2 by 9 1/2 inch each of the black and white, 2 squares 3 1/2 inch of the black and white, 2 squares 3 1/2 inch of what every color you want in the center.
Sew the blocks white blocks together with the color in the center, do the same for the black. Put them on top of each other, with long seam opposite directions. Sew 1/4 seam on each side, cut in center then you have 2 blocks, half black/half white with color center.
Easier then a 9 patch with less sewing. Hope this helps everyone.

Mountainpeek Creations and the pattern is 312 Shadowbox. $8 and they will send it to your email address.

I want to make a graduation quilt for one of our grandsons. I have gathered a good number of feature fabrics to put in the Shadowboxes. Hopefully that will work.

I love, love, love the first quilt - what a great 3-D effect - great job. I love the second one as well - I've been thinking about my next family reunion quilt and was thinking about a white and black one and that pattern would be perfect. I know my daughter would love the black and white one. Great job and very, very nice quilts - which I were a lucky recipient of either one - can I join your family? lol
