Finished at last
2 Attachment(s)
I went Goodwill shopping several months ago and found a hugh bag of fabric scraps for $1.50. Got it home and found out that it was actually a bag of quilt blocks, enough to make 2 nice sized quilts, mostly hand sewn.
It made me wonder what became of the person who so lovingly and patiently sewed these tiny little squares together by hand . . . and then didn't finish the quilt. The material from one definitely came from shirts, house dresses, etc. The bag got "lost" in my sewing room until this past weekend. I organized the blocks, checked my stash and found enough to make strips and borders to enlarge the quilt and a back. I also had left over batting for the sandwich. So here is my quilt with a past. I hope the lady that never got to finish her quilt would like what I did. |
OOOO!! How wonderful of you to finish. It is lovely.
It's beautiful! I'm sure the person, who put her heart into those blocks, would be very proud of what you've done with them. It's as if you've somehow linked souls, with another quilter. :)
If you look closely, you can see the quilt is very happy. Someone cared enough to finish and give it a home. You will be blessed for caring.
What a wonderful ending to this sweet quilt's story! Good on you!
So lucky you bought the bag and knew what to do with the blocks!
what a great goodwill find! you did a great job putting them together.
It is nice when some one finishes a quilt for another
How creative of you to take someone's UFO and bring it to life. The quilt looks great.
that is wonderful - the quilt and the deal!
good job on completing the squares.

lovely quilt. I am sure the person would love this finished quilt. One never knows why so much stuff is tossed out. Good that we can complete UFO's that would otherwise get lost forever.
I enjoyed your story very much. The quilt is so beautiful and how wonderful that you took the time with loving hands to finish what was started.
Nice job and all for $1.50. Double wow.

Great save and great quilt! I bundle up UFO's that I know I don't want to finish and donate them. I always hope someone else will finish them. One person's trash is another's treasure!

Oh what a wonderful quilt!!!!
Arizona Kat to the rescue...how wonderful. The quilt is lovely and I am so happy to know it is now rescued and will be used.
Lucky you!! Those are beautiful. I'm so glad they went to someone who appreciates them
Great job! You have inspired me to work on some of my UFOs and go shopping at the thrift stores to find something fun. Thanks!
Isn't it a wonderful feeling to rescue something! Kudos to you. Great finish. I'm sure if the original maker could see it they would be proud of your finish. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful quilt speaks of time gone by, I love finishing orphaned quilts..............
I'll just bet she is looking down on you from up above and smiling. So great to find such a treasure and give it life. I can never understand why some relatives choose to just get rid of things so lovingly made. I know I would hang onto anything I could made by one of my family. Just MHO.

Lucky find!
It is so nice that you finished what someone couldn't!
What a beautiful quilt! :) |
