Finished with my very first quilt top!
1 Attachment(s)
Hello all, I'm finished with my very first quilt top. I've attached a picture. It was a lot harder than I thought. My sashing has a few puckers as well as some of my blocks. Not sure what really happened but I followed a printed pattern and the finished quilt size is supposed to be 61x72. When I measure my quilt from corner to corner it's 92.5". At least it's square! I know I probably shouldn't have made my first quilt so large, but wanted to make something that I would be able to use. I'm thinking of doing straight stitch quilting around the blocks. I've never quilted before, but will be doing it on my sewing machine. I have my walking foot and will probably pin instead of spray basting, in case I mess up and have to redo, I won't have a sticky mess. Any suggestions on what other type of quilting I should do besides the straight stitching around the blocks? Thank you all for your help and or suggestions!

Nice job. Your blocks are lined up nicely. I love the colors you chose

I really like the colors - the quilt looks comfy.
I don't know what type of quilting you should do. First I would wonder what batting are you using? the batting will dictate how close you will have to quilt. My last quilt that I finished I did straight line quilting..... cross hatch on a 45 degree angle. Each line was about 2-1/2" from eachother. I was happy how it turned out and it wasn't too difficult to do |
Congratulations. Kool first quilt. Welcome from Northern California. Looking forward to seeing more from you. You did GOOD girl. BrendaK

Thank you Meyert. I'm not familiar with a cross hatch on a 45 degree angle? Can you explain how to do it? I have never quilted before. Thanks!

Thank you BrendaK. You made my day! I know my borders and corners are a little off, but I showed my husband and asked if he noticed anything before I continued. He didn't find anything until I had to point out to him that I was off a hair on lining up my border and my corner square. He said if you have to look that hard, to not worry about it. I decided to leave it. Now on to trying to learn to machine quilt it! :)
