finished quilt top, it needs a name still

Usually I have a name early on in a quilt, but this one evades me. It is one I donated the making of to an auction for the little boy's family that was wounded by the tree limb falling on him.
The winner said surprise her, and she likes Africa, bright colors and hunting. This is what I came up with. Any suggestions for a name?

When you shared your pics the other day, my mind went to the I Spy quilts .... so my name suggestion is .........

I Spy in Africa!

Your colours and fabrics have come together ever-so nicely. The recipient will have many hours of "spying" and enjoyment from your choice for her.

"Lost in Africa" is my suggestion. How did you do the decreasing size of blocks and still get them to all fit together? Is there a pattern for this? This is amazing quilt .... for its color and texture.

Another I just thought of ............. Out of Africa (80's movie?)

Though I do like MaryMo's Lost in Africa best of all! :)

Yes, both are good names, but I think Lost in Africa is the better because of the mixture of squares and the lack of defined "pictures" in many of the squares. I was in Sub-Saharan Africa last year. Your quilt is a wonderful reminder. Most of the African material is either whimsical or it is traditional, with a wide variety of meanings. Your quilt fits in well! Great job!

Beautiful quilt

I like "Deep in the African Village". The women remind me of the individual villages in Africa. I see it coming from the small squares at the bottom of the quilt being the "world view" and as the blocks get bigger you come closer and closer into the individual villages. I do love your quilt.

Thanks so much for the many suggestions.
Sierra, especially many thanks for your comments as I was not at all sure I had been true enough to the African concept. I have very little personal knowlege or experience to pull from. I just let my heart and my stash guide me. Another friend has suggested the name African Cascade because of the way the size of the squares cascade across the quilt diagonally.
KSellers, I am very touched and moved by how you see the quilt's message. You have put into words what I was feeling as I made the quilt, but couldn't explain.
I am so torn by the choices, so many good ones and good reasons for them! My sister has made 2 trips to Africa, so I think what I am going to do is give her all the choices, and a photo of the quilt, and let her have the final choice. I will wait a while, in case any more such excellent suggestions come in.
You are all soooo amazing!!!

Oh, sorry I forgot to address the questions about the pattern. The original pattern photo was shown in the Martingale blog. The designer is Pippa Eccles Armbrester. You can find her on Pinterest. I drafted her original pattern and then modified it to fit what I had to work with, which involved some set in seams and tricky piecing to make that odd sized upper left corner work out the way I wanted it. The original is simpler and easier to do.
As for fitting the squares, all you have to do is make sure that the sizes of your next size down when combined equals the size of the large one next to it. For example, My medium squares finished at 6" (cut 6 .5"), so the next size down = 4P of 3" finished (cut 3.5")= finished square of 6". Now to finish the next square down at 6" also, or I can finish each one at 3". A finished 3" 4P needs 1.5" finished squares (cut 2"). So, I'd need 4 of those to = the 6" finished block. I opted in this case to do lots of short strip sets and make 16 Patches. I used 2" strips to make finished 1.5" squares in the 16 P. I would be happy to send a photo of the graph I used as my pattern if anyone would find that helpful.

I love the concept of your quilt, both in fabric and design. Great job. Best of luck in naming. Lots of great suggestions.
