Fire and Ice - a D9P Finished! (Picture-heavy post)

This quilt is for my granddaughter for Christmas, but will first be going to the county fair next week. It's a sofa-size, about 59"x 75". This is a simple Disappearing 9 Patch design with lots of FMQ and some machine applique in the borders.

I used Quilter's Dream Select Poly black batting so I would be sure not to have any show-through of light colored batting. Quilter's Dream Select has the density and look of a cotton batting even though it is poly. I really like working with that stuff!

Thanks for to Neesie for coming up with the perfect name for this one! And specail thanks to my daughter, AZChrisG, for showing me how cool a D9P can look with the right fabrics
( http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...k-t134082.html ) I did the binding and the hanging sleeve last night and took some detailed pics today.

This is the first quilt I've use this machine applique technique on; I learned it this summer in a class by Carmen Geddes called "I Can't Believe It's Machine Applique" where I did this small wall hanging http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t226325.html Between the applique and the FMQing, I think this one is pretty special. I did the quilting on my DMS (Juki TL98Q) using Superior Threads' Magnifico Thread. It's a shine poly thread and I love the look of it!

So, after countless hours of work, here it is:

A view of the quilting from the back. These are my original quilting designs. I did some marking with a water soluble pencil so that I could keep these fairly symmetrical and even throughout the whole quilt.

Hope you like it... ;-)

what a stunning quilt! i love the scrolls at the ends and your quilting design makes the quilt reversible.

This is really beautiful. It's done so well it could be used from either side.

As usual Wendy, your work is jaw droppingly gorgeous. Love everything about this quilt but that arc on the top and bottom borders really takes the cake on this one. The quilting is amazing too but my eye was really drawn to that border treatment. Fabulous!!
