Hello All
I have finally finished the top I designed for a friend of mine who is a volunteer firefighter. He has been for over 20 years so I hope he will like this when done. The middle says "I fight what you fear"
The pictures are not the best as the top is 72x90 or so (he is 6'4" tall lol) The blank space in the sides and top will be quilted in a firefighter motif.
Do you think he will like it?

I Know he will llike it. My SIL is a firefighter. Love the flames along the side. What will you have quilted on it. Fire hoses?

sewnsewer2 12-22-2009 06:53 PM

Yes, I think he will love it! Great job!

LovingIzabella 12-22-2009 07:02 PM

Thank you very much. The center will have firehoses, fire hydrants and a flame mix. The sides will have the silhouette of a firefighter down them.

Oh April, that is great! How could he not love it!!! So fitting for a firefighter! Are you doing the quilting yourself or sending it out?

By the way, thinking good thoughts about your DD - hope she's feeling better! I know her MRI is in two days...so I'll keep sending out good wishes to you and her.

Love,
Esq

I am sending the quilt off to Roseanne (thequilteddove) she is a member here and has done several quilts for me. I wish I had the talent to do the actual quilting myself-someday perhaps :-)

And thank you-her MRI is tomorrow and I hope they can figure out what is going on. I appreciate the good wishes you are sending our way-they truly mean a lot to us!

Loretta,
He has been a great friend and I think what he does is extremely unselfish. I had actually tried to become a volunteer firefighter after my mother and I were in a bad head on car collision. An off duty firefighter stopped and saved my mother's life so I had wanted to do for someone else what was done for me. Unforetunatly with the damage that was done to my knee when I went for ladder ops training it locked up and popped out of place on the ladder and I had to have one of the other trainees climb up the back of the ladder and literally unlock my leg so I could get down. I made the determination then and there I could not risk that happening in the event on was one the ladder with a child or something who depended on me so I resigned out of the department :-(
Hope you have a great holiday and so very sorry to hear of such a loss :-(

You may have started something. All of his buddies will want one for themselves. Great job!

Fire fighters have to do what firefighters do. Most especially in the volunteer departments! Even if you never have to climb a ladder after training, you must be trained to do it all.
I spent a year as a volunteer firefighter/EMT ... got all the training and when it came to graduation night at the EMT event ... I found out I was absolutely no good in an emergency!
I am empathetic and FEEL everything I see, which is why I can't watch wanton, graphic blood and gore ... in an emergency I spend so much time trying to control my "feelings" I almost do more damage than the original accident ... I had to leave it all behind. I was no help! But, there are a lot of ways we can support firefighters, and I am glad for this quilt to be a good example!

sewjoyce 12-23-2009 07:46 PM

I know your friend is just gonna love this quilt!! :D

LovingIzabella 12-23-2009 08:41 PM

Thank you all! I am hoping he will see this quilt as not only a tribute to our friendship but a tribute to the brethren of firefighters as well.
And if the buddies want one-ill make them one too :-) Just a small thing I can do to say thank you!

Omak,
It hurt when I could not physically do it as emotionally I am solid as a rock-so to speak :-) It is nice to see other women who are or who have tried.
And thank you for the compliment that the quilt is a good example of the support-that means a lot to me!
