First attempt at free motion quilting

2 Attachment(s)
Okay everyone ... thought we all deserved a good chuckle this morning! I have never free motion quilted before and I decided that it's now or never. I know I have a long way to go, but I it was a great experience for me ... minus a few choice words along the way! It was like trying to ride your bike for the very first time ... a lot of wobbling. To ease your minds, I have signed up for a beginning free motion class at our local quilt shop.

No chuckle from this member just admiration!!!

thimblebug6000 08-21-2016 07:33 AM

Looks pretty good from where I'm sitting!

RedGarnet222 08-21-2016 07:35 AM

weasier! You did it! I think it looks great for your first one. You should have seen mine. No I take that back, No one should see that.

I am really proud of you to have jumped in and gone for it. I think that once you practice a while, you will be a natural.

Oh by the way ... I love the runner.

Tartan 08-21-2016 08:08 AM

Cute runner and well done!

BrendaK 08-21-2016 08:59 AM

Kool runner. I would say that you sure did do it. You have every right to be proud of yourself. I am proud of you. At least you tried and you were successful. I only do the simple things. I am working up the harder FMQ. BrendaK

Great looking topper! Congrats on your first fmq!

cjackaitlin 08-21-2016 10:27 AM

Be proud first that did it, second not a bad job. Third I like it. Thanks for sharing. mary

I really can't see the quilting very well (maybe that was the point, lol) but I do like the table topper, with really well chosen fabrics, and I'm sure you will enjoy your FMQ journey.

Wolfsmate 08-21-2016 10:32 AM

I'm finding out FMQ isn't as easy as I thought it would be so this looks good to me.

cjsews 08-21-2016 11:01 AM

Hey. Great attempt. I have my first FMQ that looks the same. I did take a class after that and failed. Better luck to you Maybe I will get it one day

ManiacQuilter2 08-21-2016 11:14 AM

You had a busy top so none of your mistakes will show. Very nice table runner.

osewme 08-21-2016 11:30 AM

From what I can see it looks great. I've never gotten the hang of free motion or paper piecing but I keep trying. I hear that the secret is practice, practice, practice.

Nothing wrong with that. My first attempt resulted in many hours of unpicking.

Homespun 08-22-2016 04:11 AM

Looks great from this galloping horse!!! LOL It's all good!

QM 08-22-2016 04:23 AM

Looks good from where I sit.

P-BurgKay 08-22-2016 06:18 AM

Weasier,
It looks great to me. You should be proud of yourself. I too am new to free motion. I have always been a die hard hand quilter and I am having a lot of fun free motioning. Compared to others, mine is not very good but I am proud of each one I do and you should be also. So pat yourself on the back.

tessagin 08-22-2016 06:25 AM

Ditto here! I agree. Beautiful work.

looking good!!!!

QuiltnNan 08-22-2016 09:17 AM

nicely done

retiredteacher09 08-22-2016 07:43 PM

Congratulations! It looks nice.

I made a list of sewing things I wanted to do this summer and learning how to use my embroidery/darning foot for free motion quilting was one of them. I still haven't tried it but I did pull out a sandwiched block this afternoon and laid it closer to my sewing machine. Lol!

Looks pretty darn good to me. Love the table topper.

twinkie 08-23-2016 02:47 AM

It gets easier with each one you do. Very good start.

jmoore 08-23-2016 02:50 AM

Hey you gotta start somewhere... And as long as you are enjoying the journey and having fun, that's all that matters.

callen 08-23-2016 04:12 AM

Congrats to you. I am too chicken yet to give it a try but your 1st attempt looks great so does the runner.

2manyhobbies 08-23-2016 04:20 AM

It looks just great to me.

grammasharon 08-23-2016 04:39 AM

Looks great from here and enjoy your class.

carolynjo 08-23-2016 05:16 AM

Looks good to me. Practice, practice, practice is the key.

annette1952 08-23-2016 06:52 AM

Very pretty runner! You did a great job quilting it

klswift 08-23-2016 07:21 AM

Looks fine. And how smart you are to have started on a smaller project. Some of us fools (I mean me) jumped into our first FMQ experience with a full size quilt on a small harp machine. There were many more than a couple bad words coming out of my workroom!

ctrysass2012 08-23-2016 07:35 PM

Good looking runner. Your quilting looks fine to me. Soon you'll wonder what you worried about.

MargeD 08-24-2016 11:18 AM

Good for you for taking the plunge. I'm still trying to find my "big girl pants" to start FMQ, soon though, I'm running out of excuses.

mjhaess 08-25-2016 09:14 AM

Good job...
