First attempt at free motion quilting
2 Attachment(s)
Okay everyone ... thought we all deserved a good chuckle this morning! I have never free motion quilted before and I decided that it's now or never. I know I have a long way to go, but I it was a great experience for me ... minus a few choice words along the way! It was like trying to ride your bike for the very first time ... a lot of wobbling. To ease your minds, I have signed up for a beginning free motion class at our local quilt shop.

No chuckle from this member just admiration!!!

Looks pretty good from where I'm sitting!

weasier! You did it! I think it looks great for your first one. You should have seen mine. No I take that back, No one should see that.
I am really proud of you to have jumped in and gone for it. I think that once you practice a while, you will be a natural. Oh by the way ... I love the runner. |
Cute runner and well done!
Kool runner. I would say that you sure did do it. You have every right to be proud of yourself. I am proud of you. At least you tried and you were successful. I only do the simple things. I am working up the harder FMQ. BrendaK

Great looking topper! Congrats on your first fmq!
Be proud first that did it, second not a bad job. Third I like it. Thanks for sharing. mary

I really can't see the quilting very well (maybe that was the point, lol) but I do like the table topper, with really well chosen fabrics, and I'm sure you will enjoy your FMQ journey.
I'm finding out FMQ isn't as easy as I thought it would be so this looks good to me.
Hey. Great attempt. I have my first FMQ that looks the same. I did take a class after that and failed. Better luck to you Maybe I will get it one day
You had a busy top so none of your mistakes will show. Very nice table runner.
From what I can see it looks great. I've never gotten the hang of free motion or paper piecing but I keep trying. I hear that the secret is practice, practice, practice.
Nothing wrong with that. My first attempt resulted in many hours of unpicking.
Looks great from this galloping horse!!! LOL It's all good!
Looks good from where I sit.

Weasier,
It looks great to me. You should be proud of yourself. I too am new to free motion. I have always been a die hard hand quilter and I am having a lot of fun free motioning. Compared to others, mine is not very good but I am proud of each one I do and you should be also. So pat yourself on the back. |
Ditto here! I agree. Beautiful work.

nicely done

Congratulations! It looks nice.
I made a list of sewing things I wanted to do this summer and learning how to use my embroidery/darning foot for free motion quilting was one of them. I still haven't tried it but I did pull out a sandwiched block this afternoon and laid it closer to my sewing machine. Lol! Connie |
Looks pretty darn good to me. Love the table topper.
It gets easier with each one you do. Very good start.
Hey you gotta start somewhere... And as long as you are enjoying the journey and having fun, that's all that matters.
Congrats to you. I am too chicken yet to give it a try but your 1st attempt looks great so does the runner.
It looks just great to me.
Looks great from here and enjoy your class.
Looks good to me. Practice, practice, practice is the key.
Very pretty runner! You did a great job quilting it
Looks fine. And how smart you are to have started on a smaller project. Some of us fools (I mean me) jumped into our first FMQ experience with a full size quilt on a small harp machine. There were many more than a couple bad words coming out of my workroom!
Good looking runner. Your quilting looks fine to me. Soon you'll wonder what you worried about.
Good for you for taking the plunge. I'm still trying to find my "big girl pants" to start FMQ, soon though, I'm running out of excuses.
Good job...
