Okay, this was actually a couple of firsts for me. First is that this was hand pieced, which is something I've always wanted to try. Second, I've never used a hexagon shape in anything...again, something I've always wanted to try. My grandmother used to make quilts with this shape all the time, so this was my attempt to do something she might have done. It is hand quilted (again...be kind....have not done much of that either!). Now, the only hard part is the binding, which I expected would not be an easy thing due to all the corners. If anyone has any tips, please share. I've seen examples of notching in the corners when doing binding around numerous corners, which I think is what I need to do, but...all new territory binding something that isn't square :)

Thanks in advance,

Christine

Looks great to me!! :)

Forgot to add that I realize some of the quilting will "disappear" once I get the binding on, as I quilted too close to the edge....another learning experience for me. Thanks again for any tips/tricks for the binding. :)

If it were me I think I would leave the binding off. the quilting is too nice to cover up!

You should be VERY PROUD of yourself! Your work is wonderful.

You are doing a very good job, and don't worry about what you did or didn't do right. There's always a first time for everything.

Thanks for the comments. I love to paper piece and longarm, so hand piecing/quilting is definitely out of my "comfort zone." But I had a blast doing it, so I'm sure I'll be hunting out more projects that I can hand piece....can only get better with practice :)

If you do binding on this be sure to cut the binding on the bias. The bias will go around the piece easier. Do a binding as narrow as you are comfortable with.

Great job. Nice stitching.

Looks good to me. I don't like doing anything by hand because I'm too impatient, but I love to see the hand-quilted pieces. They are so much a "labor of love."

Good Job. It was fun to do wasn't it.

Good Luck on your grand opening. I hope all is going as planned

I have never binded these shapes...it really does look ok the way it is , beautiful quilting stitches! Maybe some other kind of edging would work? like a thin ropy edging or ribbon or beads?

Can you discreetly whip the edges together without binding? I think the binding would distract from the simplicity.
