I paper pieced the panda and wanted to try more machine quilting, sooooo..... I started stippling! That dern thing sticks! I had to adjust my speed, and it worked a tad better. This really is something you just have to practice! I have been attempting it in my head for a long time, but doing it is rather more difficult. I must say I am glad that I finally DID it. now it will be easier to do the next one!
Also, most of my problem with attaching photos is with my dial up! :? I have dial up at home, and probably won't change until I HAVE to. When I go to wireless, it works like a charm! What a difference! (I can use wireless at work and it is so slick! Laptops are wonderful! ) Paper Pieced Panda wallhanging First attempt at stippling More stippling |

He's so cute! I absolutely love it! I think I'm right with you. I'm going to give stippling a go here sometime soon.

Wow that's your first try? Great work! Now it is eaier thatn you thought huh? Kind of like doodling. LOL. And the panda is adorable.
That is such a cute wallhanging! I think your stippling looks just fine. You are right in that the first one is tricky, but you'll find the next ones are easier.
Thank for all you comments! I don't know if I would have tried it so soon without all the encouragement from this board!
I was inspired by a post I first noticed in December by Fancyfoot. The free pattern is from piecebynumber.com I enlarged the pattern so the block is about 12 by 12, and with borders is about 21 inches square. I enjoyed the panda so much I pieced 12 of them! I am finishing them slowly for gifts. I still have to do one for myself! AND they all have labels! |
Looking good! See, it's not so hard. You made it look it easy.
Looking Good. Your panda is so cute!!!

Love the Panda, you did great on the paper piecing and stippling :D :D :D
Wonderful. You are free to move about the quilting machine.
Nice stippling. Love the panda and the colors you chose are wonderful. You are right it just takes practice. I do both machine and hand quilting and combine the two sometimes on the same quilt.
Good for you!!!! I have a back up of items that need quilting but since I have only done potholders on the machine I am hesitant to try the bigger items. Like you I just keep going over it in my mind, but haven't actually DONE it yet! If mine turn out half as nice as yours, I will be happy!!!
I love your panda. Where did you find your grassy fabric?
Red Garnet gave you a clue when she said 'it's just like doodling' When I first took the plunge, I doodled it on paper, any scrap would do, including old envelopes. I was told the hand/eye co-ordination thing sort of trains the brain so that it's easier when you attempt it on the machine. Now, when I want to try out a different filling pattern, I go back to the paper and pencil first, until I am happy with that, before taking everything to the machine. Well done for having a go, the first time is always the worst!

Lovely work, I am very impressed........
(my idea of "quilting" is quilting in the ditch"--hope to progress to stippling as time goes along) |
you did great on your first attempt!
Your Panda is so cute!!! I know that FMQ can be a pain but I find that if you practice about 15 mins. a day it does become easier. A glass of wine also helps

You did a great job! I tried it this past weekend and it was a disaster. I ended up breaking the feed dog dial on my sewing machine.
