First attempts @ FMQ

Just putting up some pix of my first FMQ exercises & scribbles...
This is where I started. Got an ok handle on this ~ 1/2" meandering, I think. I tried to make bigger ones, but couldn't...had to stay smallish: Then it all went to poop...started getting tired. Scribbles and proof that I can't turn left ↓:) Loop-de-loops were so-so: Different stuff Second round of loopies were better, but you can tell exactly where I started to get tired (top left). This was after about another 20 minutes or so |
It takes a lot of practice to get good doesn't it? But this is the best way t go - I'm thinking they look pretty good. That is what I should be doing right now instead of playing on the computer. Keep up the good work.

Look at you go! It gets easier, believe me. You'll build up an incredible amount of endurance. You've tackled quite a lot of designs and I can see you are going to be an excellent FMQer! Relax those shoulders, dance with the fabric, lose yourself in the patterns, and you'll accomplish beautiful designs!

I agree with Nammie. I wish I could do this good. Just keep going. It will come.
it's all about practice, this is how we all start out.your doing great.
Looking good!!!!
Interesting looking at your work..some of the patterns look exactly like the ones I've been using on the quilt I've got going! Especially the loop-de-loops and the horizonal back-and-forth pattern. Keep up the good work!
You are doing great. I should be practicing as you are. Great job!!
You are doing great!!!
That is some great meander work! You are really doing well.
Coming along great!

Perfect practice makes beautiful quilting. Always try to do your best that way you'll get better faster. I make potholders. It probably takes more time to sandwich and finish than it does to quilt, but I have a finished product that's functional and pretty. I use them for gifts at Xmas time and birthdays for friends and family. The potholders usually go on a wall for display rather than as potholders. These are small projects and can be used to try new and different quilting techniques. Keep practicing; you're doing great.

looking good! I can't seem to relax enough to do lovely large feathers myself. I'm too tense. someday!!
A journey begins with the 1st stitch....we who FM have those samples too......You will have ball....
Heck! I have just recently discovered a walking foot! FMQ hasn't even entered my world yet! I think you have given me the incentive to learn FMQ... thank you!!
You are doing a great job. I'm still practicing (and sometimes on a quilt :D).
So much better than I could do. Thank you for sharing your progress.
I recommend a glass of wine.

I think they look really good, and I fully agree that when you start getting tired, you start messing up. You need a lot more stretch breaks with FMQ, You are doing well, keep practicing. the bigger meander comes along all at once
I am a novice at FMQ too, and your looks a lot better than mine.
Gee... You are doing just great! I know what you mean about getting off when you are tired. That is when I take a break and have a cup of coffee and a snack. When I go back, I am back to happy squiggles and fmq'g.
I found this post from a search for FMQ scribbles. Compared to my "yes, I really have been practicing" results, you truly have a great deal of potential. Mine look something like a three year old trying to draw. And no, I am not kidding.
