First border done... finally

I've been ruminating on this one for a long while and finally decided on a little more simple design for the border. Don't really know what I'm going to do with it yet and flying by the seat of my pants. I don't think that I will do the little hearts around the outside but I will put the larger hearts in the corners and left an end of the vine free to go underneath them.

What a cool border. I would have never thought of it but I like it. Great job.

pittsburgpam 11-07-2011 06:57 AM

I had to come up with something. Those end little blocks just looked like they were hanging out there alone and something was missing. :-)

GABBYABBY 11-07-2011 07:30 AM

I love it!!! I would love to have the pattern to this one.

The block pattern is from the May 2010 issue of American Quilter magazine, I added the hearts and border. The small squares are 1 3/4" finished size if that tells you what all of the other piece sizes are.

Like the vine look.

cuppi duke 11-07-2011 08:08 AM

I really like that. You are doing a wonderful job keeping it even.

Pam, I just love to see your incredible piecing! Can you please share what fabric you use for your white backgrounds?

Great patterns and fabrics, too!

Great job. A lot of work but worth the effort. Very novel border that completes the quilt. Great choice.

The background is Kona Cotton in Ivory. I bought a bolt of it originally for the Dear Jane here but I found that after 4 blocks of the DJ, I didn't really have that great of an interest to do it. I also got 200 9"x11" pieces of Civil War repro fabrics for the DJ and used a lot of them in this quilt.

I should have enough CW pieces to do another quilt and always have my eye out for scrappy designs. I can't remember where I bought the bolt but it was a very good price for 15 yards, I believe. I will try and find an email receipt or something.

Quilting design

I started working on the quilting design, something I can do at my computer and still be "working" on a quilt. Pretty sure this is what I will do in the arcs and maybe just curved lines or a stipple outside of them. I think stipple inside the quilted heart and outside the applique heart, like a mirror image, and cross hatching through the white areas of the pieced blocks.

I hope this isn't way beyond my longarm quilting ability, my lines aren't very stable and smooth.

You are doing a great job. It's beautiful.

I have been admiring your avatar from the moment that I saw it. I love it! Having said that and you may not want to hear this but I think the little hearts in the border really pull it together. Pleeeeease humor me and post a pic with some of the small hearts dropped on the border. Thanks

Kim Bohannon 11-12-2011 10:22 AM

love it! I would never have thought of doing a border like that... thanks for helping my creativity! lol
