I've been wanting to do one of these for a long time and finally started on it. I got a big lot of new hankies on eBay, all different colors and styles. For the background I am using a layer cake of Moda Bella Solids in white.
Last night I washed, dried, ironed and starched the hankies. Folded one of them, starched it again, and then a very fine line of Elmer's School glue to attach it to the background. Decided to hand applique since I wanted it delicate looking and not a hard line of machine stitching around it. It's nice to have some handwork to do sometimes. Just finished this one here at work over lunch. |
that will be a beautiful quilt. i've not seen the hankies done that way. be sure to post the final quilt.

Gorgeous, can't wait to see the finished quilt.

It looks beautiful.

So pretty and girly. Later this year my guild will be making doll quilts using old fashion hankys, your block could serve as a very good model. May in Jersey

Awesome, I also ordered the hankies on line and then got a few bandanas at Wal Mart that I will doctor to a smaller size to add a few brighter colored butterflies. Are you going to add a semicircle head and antena? I will start that project after I try the obw. I am working on another quilt right now and try really hard to finish one quilt before starting another one as I don't like a cluttered work room/space. I too am looking forward to the finished product. Please post pictures as you go to motivate all those that have this project in their sites. Cheers
