Thank you all for your kind words. I have to admit I didn't use a pattern. There probably is one, but I didn't bother.

It started with a special ruler by Creative Grids (Curves for Squares) and a sample for a class at a local quilt shop. The ruler has gentle curves and can be used with 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 inch squares.

Make a small pile of 4 or 5 squares, line up the edges with the lines on the ruler and slice from corner to corner. Move the top fabric on one side to the bottom and sew them back together. Since the curves are gentle, you don't need to pin. They won't be square at this point, but we'll fix that later. Once you have a pile of finished blocks, square them up. Put them up on your design wall and rearrange until you're happy with the results.

The sample at the LQS had the blocks in a "trip around the world" arrangement, but I wanted something a little different. I've been into asymmetrical designs lately.

Thanks again.
Connie

It's a beauty! Are the curves hard to do? I've stayed away from curves and circles- they seem a big challenge to me! Love the way it turned out - very contemporary looking to me.

You can check out Karla Alexander, she designed the rulers and has some books out.

irishrose 01-29-2013 07:19 PM

It'a a beauty. I hope your dry spell has ended if this is representative of your abilities.

By using the curves instead of a straight cut down the middle of the block, it really looks different. I like it with the curves and it looks like you went to a lot more work.
