This is my second quilt top, but the first quilt I finished. I wanted my daughter to be able to take it to college with her. She leaves sunny California on Jan 2 to go to freezing Idaho. I can't go with her but I can send her a quilt to wrap around her. She loves zebra print and asked if I could use it and some bright colors. I also put in a picture of her as a little girl in one of her dance costumes (the pink matched the pink in the quilt) I learned a lot doing this quilt. I used the spray to baste it together and std it myself. I am ready to put my first top together now (it is a present for DH)

this is her dance picture (it isn't this blurry on the quilt)

Love the zebra! It isn't as cold as it was a month ago. Hope your daughter enjoys coming to Idaho!

What a great way to send your daughter off to college. Your beautiful quilt will keep her warm & close to home. Re: 2nd quilt top, 1st finished quilt - you sound just like me! I have the quilt top from my Quilting 101 class last year (avatar pic). I just quilted my first quilt with machine stitching, binding & all. Now I'm not afraid to finish my first quilt top. It is scheduled to be the first project of 2011. I'll be watching for pics of yours!

You did a great job! I sent my daughter off to college with a quilt too- zebra & turquoise!

Cute quilt, but you are so wrong about not being able to be with her. You are with her in every single stitch you put in that quilt! She will certainly feel your love every time she wraps herself in it!!

Lynneander 12-23-2010 04:35 PM

What a great job. She will certainly need this where she is going. After living in Ca., she may decide to come back home SOON.(Oh gosh, I hope not before she graduates.

Thanks for including the little photo! I'll borrow that idea for my grandies. I think it's important to send something special with them to college that represents family devotion of love. You will both share that benefit.

My daughter is getting ready to move into her own place and I used the same black and white in a quilt for her spare bedroom.

Great quilt. Hope it keeps her from getting to home sick, esp if she has a quilt her mom made to wrap up in.

quilt3311 12-24-2010 05:46 AM

Oh, I've seen that stripe fabric somewhere else. I wish I had some. Just makes your quilt dance. I'm jealous! grin

How adorable is that? I love the whole thing, but especially putting in her picture. It will be a great conversation starter in the dorm.
