Great quilt! Give yourself a big pat on the back!

Quilter7x 05-20-2012 03:54 PM

That came out great! The pattern is really nice and the quilting is a perfect design. You're right in that it is just fabric and I'm glad you went for it.

katesnanna 05-20-2012 04:48 PM

Looks great to me. Well done.

csharp 05-20-2012 04:56 PM

Looks great to me, and I can identify with the "cautious" part, but we plunge onward and love the learning process. Hope to be able to do as well someday. This is lovely.

Debbie B 05-20-2012 05:01 PM

You did a wonderful job. You should be very proud!

DebbieKT 05-20-2012 05:14 PM

Doodling! what a great idea! Each day on this board brings me closer to the realization that I did not get "lost" on the internet when I found you all! It had to have been divine intervention! I am no loger alone! I have learned SO much just by lurking in the background listeniing to youall and now have "quilty-friends" to share my thought and excitement with! I no longer have to just hear DH say " Oh..that's nice"!
And I have to admit... my first framed quilt sat on the frame for 4 days before I could find the courage to put that first stitch in and I still can't bring myself to mark on my quilts yet! This will be so much more fun when I no longer have to tear all that paper off!

jillybean302 05-20-2012 05:47 PM

Wow, That looks GREAT!!! The quilting is awesome. I am sooo jealous, in that I also bought a used midarm and frame.......a year ago!! I am just so intimidated by it, that I have not done anything on it but some practice on muslin. I am trying to work up the nerve to try it. You have inspired me. Thanks!!

Malibu 05-20-2012 08:02 PM

Looks great! I hope you enjoy many more. Thanks for posting and look forward to many more pictures :)

Congratulations on overcoming your fear and jumping in! I like the mantra "I have a longarm and I'm not afraid to use it!" You are so right it is, after all, "just fabric" but we do grow so emotionally attached to our quilts. Heck I grow emotionally attached to other people's quilts! LOL

I find drawing and doodling helps a ton. Some people like erasable whiteboards but I like good old fasioned paper and pencil so I can hang on to the drawings that turn out really well and keep them for reference. I am acquiring quite the pile of drawings. I bought a bunch of pads of newsprint when it was on close out and I doodle away. I wanted to be able to do feathers so I drew them and drew them and drew them until I could practically draw them in my sleep and now I can LA quilt them just as quick and easy as you please so give that a try to. I recently discovered Zentangling, a form of doodling that is so relaxing and fun to do. And it really helps me come up with quilting ideas. There are loads of websites about it, I have never taken a tangling class.

Edited to ask... What kind of machine did you get? Do you have a stitch regulator? I have one and I have yet to get up the nerve to try and quilt without it.

I got a Tin Lizzie 18, the table is 10' long. Yes it has a stitch regulator, I like using it the best. I've tried with my practice pieces without the regulator but didnt like how it came out. LOL

Very pretty quilt, just wait, you'll get braver as you use the longarm. I love mine everytime I put a quilt into it and have it done the same day.

Ditto. You did a super job. You should feel so proud of yourself. I will never be able to afford a LA so I love to see other people that have one succeed. YOU ARE NOW A LONGARMER. Have fun and congratulations. Thanks for the link. Think I will make a quilt. BrendaK

Very nice!

Very pretty table topper. Since they say that practice makes perfect, you have to jump in somewhere. You did jump in and I think the outcome is more than OK-very nice. I hope you enjoy your long arm and become very comfortable using it. I have 'rented time' at the LQS and know it is very different than my DSM. I keep going back. Since I am paying money I do take quilts I am making for others-I can't afford to just 'practice' on scrap sandwiches. There are mistakes; but, there is progress. But, it isn't the wrestling match that is a part of quilting at home.

QuiltnNan 02-02-2018 03:27 AM

nicely done

mtkoldra 02-02-2018 04:32 AM
