First quilt is done...
The binding was too short so it would not fold over to the back so I had to tug the front over to the back which made the corners mess up. But for my first time every doing a quilt, I think it turned out pretty good.
http://i43.tinypic.com/23if286.jpg Since I still can't cut straight...lol, it is about 30"x40". Still a good size for a travel baby blanket. I used Warm and Natural batting, not too thick so it would fold easily. |
It's a beautiful quilt - especially for a first one!
That turned out beautifully and congratulations on solving a problem. I have found I need to make bindings a little wider than my usual when I do a minkee back but I just love the feel of that fabric.
Such a bright pretty quilt. Love the fabric with the birds. Perfect for some sweet little baby to snuggle in. Great job. I'm not far behind you. I'm a new quilter too. But, I really enjoy the creative process. Keep up the great work.
Well done you. It looks great. As a hint - there are particular ways of doing corners on binding so it may be that or as you say it may be the minky that is thicker preventing you from turning. Love your colours. Keep up the great work.

I like the way the binding ends up looking like piping on the edge of the quilt. All "mistakes" provide a design opportunity and a chance to learn. So you adapted......we all do that! I agree with the advice above, make the binding a little wider when using a heavy background like Minky. good for you - let's see your SECOND quilt!
Very nice! I am sure the baby will love it and never notice any mistakes. And a first quilt using minkee was very brave. :)
Each problem is an opportunity to learn, sounds like you handled it well. Great job and congratulations on your "Firstie!" :D
Thanks! It was the darn dots that messed me up...and thus the corners since it made it even thicker. But it is washed, dried, and boxed up ready to mail. I know my friend will love it.
My second quilt will be for my mom and will NOT have minky! lol |
Darling! I really like the fabric too.
very nice job on your quilt it is lovely you did really well for a first quilt I 'm still having problems with my binding.
Very pretty.
Thank everyone! Though the binding was frustrating and has me rethinking doing binding again, I am proud of it. Already planning my 3rd and 4th quilt...2nd quilt is planned, just have to buy the fabric.
Very nice quilt. I'm sure your friend & baby will love it. Thanks for sharing.
you did such a great job! you are brave to put Minkee on the back for your first quilt... it can be tricky. perhaps, if it was just cotton on the back, the binding would have fit better. i'm sure that quilt will be very loved.
Thanks! I hope to mail the quilt tomorrow! Can't wait to see what she thinks of it.
As for the fabric, while looking at patterns I found It's A Hoot for Moda...loved it! So I went to my LQS hoping they had that line, they did! The brown is Robert Kauffamn though and the green is from JoAnn's...the binding is more felty (another mistake I think now) and is from JoAnn's also. |
It's really cute! Such cheerful colors!
My Minkee baby quilt was tricky, too.. but I "googled" for binding tutorials and watched those.. now my bindings are perfect! I was so happy that I actually cut the first binding off a little quilt and redid it, and it's really pretty now.. Those tutorials are great!!
Very pretty.
Yes, I agree with you that it turned out just fine for a first quilt. You'll find yourself getting better with each one.
Great job! We learn by our mistakes. I bet you don't do it again. Wonderful for a first time.
Love the colors! Great job!
Sweet! Lovely colours......a very pretty first. Look forward to seeing more of your work. Well done.
Thanks everyone!
And no, I plan to make sure the binding fits around BEFORE I start sewing it on. And double checking. lol |
It did come out nice...and I like that your are a newbie and fixed your own problem! Congrats
