First Rag Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
This is a rag quilt I made for my brother's birthday in March. First rag quilt I have made. I used my GO! cutter rag quilt die and it was a breeze. I plan to make at least three more of these. Sorry the picture is a little blurry; might be because of the rag edges?

nice gift for your brother

handsome! perfect for a guy ... the black/white/grey is striking. Rag quilts are so much fun to make.

It is lovely! I don't think I would ever make a rag quilt if I didn't have my Go and the rag die!

What is a GO and rag dye? Made quite a few rag quilts and have never heard of these methods?, tools?

Really love the contrast in your fabrics, I think rag quilts are so comfy made with flannel don't you. Your fabrics look sooo soft!

Thank you.

WOW. That looks so soft. I want to curl up in it. Don't have the dye. I guess I'll just have to make mine the old fashion way. Good job. BrendaK

Hi Rainsprite, the GO! is a cutter machine by Accuquilt that uses 'dies' to cut out shapes in the material. http://www.accuquilt.com/go-shop/go-...ic-cutter.html

Caswews 02-15-2013 10:08 AM

Thanks for the idea of red in there (SouthPStitches also suggested red or another color for another quilt I am going to do for the oldest daughter)- I will be trying to make the youngest DD and her hubby a black n white quilt (they would like old Hollywood as they are film buffs). I am going to look for film material when I start it, they have to decide what type of block they want as they are very minimalist in their style.

Very nice quilt by the way .. good job !!

luciab 02-15-2013 11:42 AM

I love rag quilts and yours is very pretty.

delores41 02-15-2013 01:34 PM

what did you use for batting? Did you cut your batting blocks and batting blocks the same size so the batting was stitched into the seams?

Hi Delores,
I didn't use batting in this one, just two layers of flannel. Next time I will use batting for mine, because I want it to be heavier (and I am going to have to research how to do it, lol).
Although this is not for DH, he liked the weight of it because he likes to throw a blanket over his head when he naps on the chair.

Looks nice and cozy!

GrannieAnnie 02-15-2013 07:53 PM

I've never even bothered to look up the Go! Cutter before. I've seen a lot of you talk about it.

I'M RUINED! I'm not going to be happy until I get the cutter and the rag die. I'm on my 3rd rag quilt, although mine are width of fabric rags. I hate the snipping. And I've got to repair one strip that I messed up.

I've also got fabric for a rag quilt for my younger DD, but I've been dreading the snipping.

And Christmas and birthdays are past. Darn it.

Auntie Em 02-15-2013 08:24 PM

Really neat...GREAT job!!! Your brother will LOVE this!!!
