Well I did it! My first Texture Magic project, and I think it turned out well. I made a "Textured Tote" from a pattern "Textured Tote & Accessories by Patterns by Annie.

I used a thin layer of polyester batting for it so it would be puffy and spaced my grid lines a little farther apart than the pattern suggested. I really like the way it turned out. The accessories are cut out, but not done yet. I plan on trying them with out the polyester batting and placing the grid closer just to see how that turns out. OH..I also used headliner foam for the lining instead of batting. The pattern suggested this and I really think that for this tote it is great. Gives more body with out weight like cotton batting.

Here are pics...oops!, I see I forgot to take off my chalk marks from the lining.

Opps! Forgot to mention that my DH very kindly took the pics. AND he encouraged me to finish it when my attention started to wane! Such a sweetie! He said, "Finish it! I want to see how it turns out.." lol

That is so pretty. What a great job.

nursie76 01-10-2010 08:45 PM

Thank you. It is always a little scary learning a new technique. Also, I did put a pocket inside that the pattern didn't call for. I think if I did it again, I would modify the way the handles are put on. But I think it will be perfect for my lunch and some whatnots like a puzzle book and maybe my cell, so when I do lunch, can just grab it and go.

I love it!!! Beautiful fabrics and love the texture magic technique :D:D:D
You have just talked me into giving it a try!!!

Cool! It looks like alligator skin!

nursie76 01-11-2010 05:30 AM

Lisa, Yes, now that you mention it, it does look like alligator skin...BUT - no alligators were harmed during the making of this tote.. :D

Amma - Give it a try. I had a hard time finding TM in my area, only 1 LQS carries it (got mine on a trip to Rochester, NY). Is a little pricey, but I really like it. Patterns by Annie has several more patterns specifically for TM, but it could be used for anything. I think I will try another bag, using it for just a flap or panel...sort of a highlight or embellishment. I saw an applique type poinsettia done with it and it was awesome. Good luck and send pics!

Awesome! What is head liner foam?

nursie76 01-11-2010 05:45 AM

It is kinda like the stuff used for the headliner of a car. It is 1/8" thick and usually has a nylon cover on one side and exposed foam on the other. I found it at Joann fabrics, but only in black. Then my husband found some at an outlet but it has nylon on both sides. He misunderstood and got me 2 yards instead of one and it is 54" wide, so I have a life time supply! lol
I used the stuff he got for this project and it worked well. Gave a lot of body to the bag and isn't difficult to sew through. I do still want to try the others with the fabric on both sides to see if there is any difference. I do know that it doesn't seem to make the tote as heavy as the cotton batting made my oversized tote I took to New Zealand. That is heavy with nothing in it!!!!!
