How many of you quilters use stencils for your designs? This is the first time I've tried it. I traced the pattern onto the quilt, then free-handed the quilting. I then filled the rest in with micro stippling. I like trying new things!

Very Nice. I haven't tried doing that yet. What did you use to mark your quilt?

greenfairy 06-20-2009 11:01 AM

I used a fabric disappearing marker. It disappears after 10-15 minutes after application. It comes in handy.

I think you did an amazing job on it!

That quilt is gonna be soooo pretty! Do I see a scalloped edge as well? I have yet to attempt that. You did a fantastic job quilting that border...isn't it fun??!!!

Beautiful! Can a regular sewing machine do this?

Eddie 06-20-2009 02:45 PM

Beautiful work, I hope to try it some day when I get more comfortable in my skin with all this. Looks like you've mastered it already.

I'm not nearly this talented, but I do all mine on my regular sewing machine. :D My machine says that it can do a MUCH better job if it only had a much better operator!!

You did a fantastic job quilting. How much practice have you done? What setup do you have?

Harmony 06-20-2009 04:27 PM

Beautiful! The micro stippling makes the stencilled quilting stand out even more--gives it some dimension. Well done!

littlehud 06-20-2009 07:10 PM

I have used stencils before but the micro quilting sets it off perfectly. I need to try that. Great job.

Thanks! I've only recently started micro stippling, but have been quilting for about 3 years. As far as my set up, I have an A1 Long Arm on a 12 foot table.

Beautiful job!!

Wow, you are good.
I also use stencils and disapearing ink pens. They work the best.

GailG 06-22-2009 10:42 AM

Gorgeous !! Was this done on a domestic machine?

butterflywing 06-22-2009 06:27 PM

i use chalk pencils and brush it off when i'm done.

rosemary128 06-22-2009 06:35 PM

So beautiful! I'll have to see if you've posted another picture of the full quilt - I like what I see of the blocks.

Adelaide Girl 06-22-2009 07:15 PM

You obviously have "the touch"! I have just got a 2.8m quilting frame and have set up my Janome 6500P on it and doing some freehand quilting on it. I hope to get to your standard soon. yes, I know!! Practice, practice and more practice!!

You do such beautiful work! I love the stencil pattern you used. I may have to try this, rather then a panto.
