I got tired of wasting thread while I tested my new machine--remember the over oiling--and goofy tension and trying to find the best thread? So, I starting sewing strips together. Then I decided to cut them up into squares--and stick them in blocks. I didn't want to worry about getting every block the same size--I have many scrap strips of various widths. I found a nice batik that will border anything that needs to be bigger. I'll work on this little by little-between other projects. But I really like it so far. As long as I stick to fallish hues, it should come out kind of nice.

Scrappy quilts are my favorite, but since most of my scraps are strips...well...this works. I know this pattern is not my idea--I've seen it somewhere. Haven't I?

This will probably be your best one yet.. only because it is just coming together without the palnning ....

Can't wait to see more of its progress!

Yes, that's the split rail fence and it's going to be gorgeous when you have it all done :)

Love those squares. I can't wait to see the whole quilt. Fall colors are my favorite.

I used to love fall because of the colors. When I had brown hair, I wore a lot of the fall colors. Loved the browns and golds. But now that I have "winter hair" I tend to wear the winter colors: bright blues, greens, reds, fuschia, etc. I do slip in the fall colors at times.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. Those blocks are great. They remind me of the gal who wrote the book about it being OK to sit on her quilt. Mary Ellen Hopkins. When you said you sewed the strips together then cut them up in blocks. She would always say, it's your quilt, it's your block, it's your measurement.

Keep up the good work.

I have no idea--but I'm out and I really want more. It was one of my favorite fabrics in the fall circular log cabin I did--which is where most of these scraps came from.

PS--dreamer--maybe you meant the border on the one square??? I got that at a local Mennonite shop. I've seen similar at Keepsake Quilting. They often have some neat batik like fabric.

That is pretty! Is it the rail fence? Or some variation of it? Whatever it is, I think it is going to turn out really beautiful.
