First of Two Tops Done
1 Attachment(s)
During the recent VQW, I had posted pics of my start on one of the two quilt tops my SIL asked me to make for two of her granddaughters for Christmas. She chose a couple of panels, one of cats and the other turtles, based on the girls' likes and we ordered them online. The quilts will be queen sized. I started with the cat quilt, but realized I needed a complimentary fabric, which I ordered online and haven't yet received.
When I received the turtle panel in the mail, I got started on that one and the top is now done. I'm off today to pick up a batting and some fireside fleece for backing. The girls live in Newfoundland, with cold winters and my SIL would like the quilts to be cozy and warm and fireside certainly does that. Here is a pic of what I put together with this panel. I had made a plan, and then had to totally revise it once the panel came because the colours weren't exactly what I imagined and a turtle fabric I bought didn't work at all with the panel. Now I have a yard of turtle fabric in my stash and no idea what I'll ever do with it :). I will bind it with the dark blue that is used in some of the borders. This granddaughter's favourite colour is green so I hope she likes it. Thanks for looking. |
Great use of the tropical underwater panel, beautifully framed with batik fabrics. That young girl is in for a super surprise on Christmas.

Great looking quilt! Love the borders!
|
What a beautiful quilt, she will love it!!!
|
It's beautiful!! Love the watery effect that batik blues and greens give. Glorious border you did also Don't worry, you'll find a use for the other turtle piece. Just needs time to grow on ya.

Very pretty! She will love it!

Pretty quilt. It actually looks like the turtles are swimming in a fish tank.
I'm sure the little girl will love it. Would the left over turtle fabric work for a dresser scarf for a hanging storage organizer? Of course you'd probably have to make a similar organizer for the other little girl. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/131188360591-0-1/s-l1000.jpg<strike></strike> |
Pretty top!

Very pretty quilt top. Great colors.
|
That is magical, I am sure she will love it. Can’t you use the other fabric for the binding?
|
I would love to dive right into that. Lovely colours.
|
Pretty quilt with sea turtles. Make a pillow case or tote bag with the extra fabric.
|
I love turtles. Reminds me of being a kid and catching turtles in near by ponds. Sea turtles are timeless treasures. Your quilt will be a timeless treasure. What a holiday gift I can't wait to see the other quilt.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Ariannaquilts: The colours in the other fabric really don't work with this one, and I plan to use the dark blue as the binding (it has multicoloured bubbles all over it that you can't see in this picture); BonnieJP: That organizer is a great idea but I've never met the girls and I don't know anything about the set up of their rooms, so I don't know how that would work; Rhonda K: my mother suggested a pillowcase as well, but it would kill me if she put it on the bed with this quilt (not that that should be my problem because I doubt I'll ever get to their house to see it) but the tote bag is an idea that I'm going to mull around. I'll have to see what time I have left after the two quilts are finished, since it has to be shipped across the country as well, to arrive around Dec 15 when my brother and SIL plan to arrive there for Christmas. |
Your top is just gorgeous!

Very nice quilt and I especially love the way you did the borders.
|
I love that top. You did a beautiful job.
|
Your borders are perfect - they really highlight the panel and make this quilt one of a kind.
