Looks great! Congrats to you and to Peg.

grocifer 03-12-2011 05:37 AM

Don't we all wish we could fix a mistake and have it turn out as beautiful. I think we have the smartest membership on the web!! I learn something new every day.

Had I not seen the original, I would have thought your "fix" was just what you were going for :D It looks great.

nabobw 03-12-2011 05:54 AM

Looks Beautiful

suekenyon 03-12-2011 05:58 AM

Love what you have...very pretty colors.

stitchofclass2 03-12-2011 06:34 AM

Wow! What a great fix! The quilt is beautiful.

Stitchalong 03-12-2011 06:43 AM

Great fix and it is now an original.

Homespun 03-12-2011 07:01 AM

Beautiful--I didn't notice the 2 reversed blocks at first. Keep working--we all make mistakes and most of them can be fixed.

vivoaks 03-12-2011 07:19 AM

And that, ladies, is what this quilt board is all about! If you don't have a clue, someone on this board will! You just have to ask! It's beautiful now! And a LOT of work. I'm glad you were able to save it! :-)

rosemaynes 03-12-2011 07:41 AM

WOW it looks great and now you are able to save it.. that is great.

Monika 03-12-2011 07:44 AM

Great collaboration to a great solution!

Monika 03-12-2011 07:45 AM

and I love the inspector in the first picture......

ggreenridley 03-12-2011 07:47 AM

A great save. It is lovely.

KathyKat 03-12-2011 07:54 AM

Great job! Just turn those 2 blocks around that are oriented wrong and it will be finished. Beautiful colors and a great save.

red-warrior 03-12-2011 07:55 AM

I love it....just beautiful!

BettyM 03-12-2011 07:55 AM

Wow! And it's a VERY NICE finished look!

running1 03-12-2011 08:01 AM

Wow!! That is beautiful!! I'm amazed at how ingenious you experienced quilters are!! It clearly requires some geometry and other math solutions... both of which rattle around in my head... sigh...
Congratulations on your lovely quilt!!

Baloonatic 03-12-2011 08:08 AM

Wow, great fix!! Yes, I see the two blocks that point the wrong way, but the biggest error I see is that you've misplaced that gorgeous furball from the first pic! :-D

NDQuilts 03-12-2011 08:11 AM

This was a great solution. I think I like the end result better than the original design.

Stacey 03-12-2011 08:15 AM

Oh, WOW !What a different look it gives to the traditional Lone Star. I love it. Love your colors, too. Nice collaboration, you two!

carol43 03-12-2011 08:19 AM

You did a great job.

dphelps 03-12-2011 08:55 AM

I am so glad you posted this. I am having a similar problem with the "bump" on a table runner I am making. This really helps. Thanks to you both, jillaine and Peg.

117becca 03-12-2011 09:13 AM

That looks beautiful!!! And forgive me if someone mentioned this, I'm quickly lurking instead of cleaning!!

At the 3:00 spot, and at the 4:00/5:00 spot, do you want those points pointing in, when the rest are pointing away from the star?

I hope you haven't completing sewn it together yet...

That is absolutely beautiful though!!!

Elliotsgreatgrandma 03-12-2011 09:16 AM

That is wonderful i am amazed at the fix.

ann clare 03-12-2011 09:20 AM

Looking good.

psquared52 03-12-2011 09:37 AM

I think the "solution" created an even more beautiful block! Sometimes our mistakes force us to be creative, and great things can happen then! Beautiful.

Yes, recovery is always a good thing. The quilters on this board are such good problem solvers!

Oh I wish, KathyKat! I want this to be a bed quilt, so I also have to make it rectangular. I figured out how to do that without it being HUGE!

I've just completed the parallelograms (sp?) that will go into the "new" empty areas.

And then I'll need to make four triangles to form the four corners. Then a border all the way around. I am probably going to appliqué a rose from the large-print fabric onto the center, and perhaps sprinkled around the brightest, largest "red" areas, because I think those shapes dominate too much.

I am also considering (call me Crazy) embroidering vines with leaves and rose buds along some of the internal white border areas to distract from the oddly placed seams. But that may be too much.

Just ripped out the squares going in the wrong direction (this poor fabric has been ripped out so many times!) and I'm just taking a break (here on the board) before going back.

I would SO love to finish the top (less the possible embroidery) this weekend!

Did you intend for all your points to be facing outwards?
You did an amazing fix and the quilt is beautiful.

joyce blint 03-12-2011 11:52 AM

I notice in the 1st pic, it has a big gray spot on it. Just kidding!!!! (Love the big gray spot!)

Yeah, Clio is quite the "gray spot". She's actually a long hair "muted calico". Her nickname (when I'm not calling her Cutthatout!) is "Shake and Bake" because she looks like a long hair cat that you put in a paper bag with flour, brown sugar and ash dust.

rockie8903 03-12-2011 12:07 PM

great fix

Marvel 03-12-2011 01:11 PM

I see what was bothering you. After you solved this aren't you glad you didn't throw it away. It looks lovely.

gal288 03-12-2011 01:23 PM

Love the cat, they make good bed ornaments!! My Cleo is exactly that, only comes off the bed to eat.. but we love her dearly...

I love your idea to add the roses & vine.

IrishNY 03-12-2011 01:29 PM

It's beautiful. It sure doesn't look like it started out like a mistake - it looks like it will be a masterpiece. I wish my mistakes turned out so well!

okiepastor 03-12-2011 01:33 PM

I like it better with the strips! got to remember this!

NUTMEG10 03-12-2011 01:35 PM

Once you fix the 2 blocks that are going the wrong way you are on your way to a beautiful quilt. I love the colors.

QuiltNama 03-12-2011 03:04 PM

Peg,
This may not be the vision you started with, but it is really beautiful. It will be a winner when you get it finished.
Brenda
