flange binding

2 Attachment(s)
we play a game called CLR at our quilt guild. The prize is fabric from all quilters. These are the fabrics I won. We are suppose to make something with them... I didn't really like it unfinished... then saw a "flange video" and thought this would be a good project to experiment with... I like the way it turned out. Flange binding is definitely fussy and I can't say this is my best effort, hope to get better at it.

Cute quilt! The flange binding is the only machine binding I like.

I forgot about using it. Glad I was reminded as it is very pretty.

QuiltnNan 03-15-2017 03:53 PM

nicely done

The flange binding adds a nice touch. I like using it too.

QuiltnNan 03-15-2017 03:54 PM

the mitered corners are definitely more challenging with the flange binding

The flange in the binding adds a real nice touch to your quilt.

glue basting helps a lot! it takes a little longer, but still quicker than hand stitching it.

twinkie 03-16-2017 02:12 AM

I have done this binding twice. It takes practice. Looks good.

maviskw 03-16-2017 04:32 AM

Does someone have a link to a tutorial? I have done this, but forgot how, and would like to know.

Beautiful Spring quilt. I love the flange binding also. It is a little fussier to do but worth it.

JuneBillie 03-16-2017 04:42 AM

Very pretty quilt, and the flange binding turned out nice.

red-warrior 03-16-2017 05:04 AM

Very cute quilt and binding!

duckydo 03-16-2017 05:28 AM

Your binding looks great... It is better than having to hand stitch all of the binding on.

Wanabee Quiltin 03-16-2017 05:36 AM

Very nice, I'd like to try this type of binding.

Great little quilt! Thanks for the reminder about the flange binding. I do need to try it soon! ;)

juliea9967 03-16-2017 06:33 AM

I use flange binding for all my quilts now. It was a little fussy in the beginning, but keep going and it will be your go-to binding all the time. I absolutely love how easy it is to sew on, and the detail that it adds to the quilt.

trolleystation 03-16-2017 09:03 AM

I often use flange binding. It gives a great finish to the quilt.

KwiltyKahy 03-16-2017 09:05 AM

I love flange bindings, I don't do any other kind now.

MarleneC 03-16-2017 12:35 PM

I have also used it around a center portion--like you have--just the purple -- folded--like a small flange--it helps the center portion or even a panel have a little more definition.

QUILTNMO 03-16-2017 02:20 PM

very nice job!!!

sdeaaz 03-16-2017 03:41 PM

CLR game is a dice game. Left, right center. We bring 3 fabric cuts, charms, WOF, 10 inch squares, etc. You rolldice and either pas you fabric to rt, EFT or put in center. Fun game .it can be bought at Walmart for about $8 or less. We play every month. The winner brings something made from fabric the next month!

I like the McCalls you tube video.just google!

Grandma Peg 03-16-2017 07:43 PM

Are ally like what you made with the fabrics, great binding.

kaylfordsollimo 03-17-2017 04:00 AM

It looks good to me.

Thanks Nan. Now I remember and will do this a little more often. I just made a quilt on which I wanted to use a certain color, but didn't have enough of it. This would have been the way to go, as I had enough for 1 1/4 inch strips.

JoyjoyMarie 03-19-2017 10:55 AM

Great quilt. Don't you just love that flange border??!! I do - have used it a couple times, and it just sets everything off so nicely.
