Flannel binding
 

[ATTACH=CONFIG]611421[/ATTACH]I finished the quilting on the flannel quilt and had to decide on binding. I usually use 2-1/4 double fold on regular quilts but that was going to be to bulky on a flannel quilt. Since it was really good Henry Glass, I thought I would try 1-3/4 single fold binding. It is working very well with the raw edge folding in to the edge of the quilt and then pinned to the back just past the stitching line. Now just to hand stitch the back.

Looks great. I have been intrigued by doing binding this way since reading the tutorial Edita Sitar put in her Scrappy fireworks book. When I did my all flannel quilt I bound it like I normally do, which is how you normally do, a 2 1/2" double fold. The binding was also flannel but I cut it on the bias so I would get an argyle pattern out of the flannel check print I used. Mine too, was really good double sided flannel. I had no issues with bulk at all. Even on my mitered corners.

This is the approach I take when I face my art quilts, rather than bind them. It helps to reduce the extra bulk in the corners when I have to turn them right side out.
