A quilt I finished in december for my aunt when she began her treatments for cancer. This is from Stack The Deck by Karla Alexander, and is a small quilt - which is what I wanted for her. Something she could easily maneuver; warm, but not over-sized. She's grown rather frail.
It's all flannel, with cotton batting. Wanting it to be soft and snuggly, I employed simple quilting with shiny brown thread: feather stitch in the ditch, and then a simple blanket stitch along each seam (to help reinforce them). It is my first completed quilt since I took a hiatus in the spring of 2008. I told my aunt that she could while away the chemo hours looking for all the little oopsies. lol... |
Made with love is the best quilt you can ever get
|
I'm sure she won't be looking for the oopsies in the quilt, instead she's going to admire it's beauty and the fact that you made it just for her! What a special niece you are.

I'm sure she will love this!
We lost my step~mom a year ago to Cancer and from the time she started Chemo, Flannel was about the only thing she could stand to have touch her skin. Everything else felt "scratchy" |
I must share my aunt's email:
I LLLLLLLLLLL OOOOOOOOOOOOOO VVVVVVVVVVVV EEEEEEEEEEEEEE MY BINKY! I JUST SNUGGLE INTO IT AND IT MAKES ME FEEL WARM, LOVED, SAFE AND SECURE. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW VERY MUCH THAT IS TRUE. I LOVED THE LITTLE SQUARE THAT I FOUND A F T E R I TALKED TO YOU, THAT WAS JUST LIKE YOU TO THINK OF THAT. TAKE CARE, HAVE A SAFE TRIP AND SEE YOU TUESDAY! AB (the "little square" she refers to is the label I put on the back. lol... also, she means, "Monday." :-) ) |
