I have a bunch of flannel that's been sitting around forever and found a great project online that combines fleece and flannel to make a blanket. They suggested tying the 2 pieces together like a quilt but I opted to sew a vertical and horizontal line, then do an X across each section to complete joining the 2 pieces together, really easy to do by pinning each section as you go because the fleece and flannel cling to each other, just need to keep smoothing the material flat as you pin each section. I cut the flannel smaller than the fleece so I could bring the edges of the fleece over to make the binding. I sewed the binding down on my machine using a blanket stitch. Found a website with very clear instructions how to do that as well. Below are the websites:

Thanks for this idea. I have been collecting frog fabric and this would be a great way to use the flannels.

This is a great idea. I bought a bunch of fleece for two quilts and than decided not to use them on the ones I had made I think I am going to do this method since I also have flannel hanging around in my closet.

My choice for warmth is wool. I spent a Minnesota winter in a trailer (not as ritzy as a mobile home) with only a flannel sheet and a vintage wool-batted cotton-covered comforter and was never cold. The next winter was in California, and that wool comforter was still perfect, not too warm, never sweat-inducing like polyester can be. Now I also love my wool-filled pillows; hypoallergenic, winter-warm and summer-cool, will last for many, many years.

Great way to do it. I like it better then tying the fleece.

That's so warm and snuggly :)

Very nice quilt. I love the colors. I do flannel and feece as well. Makes for a nice warm, soft blanket. I like how you did the binding. I will have to definitely check that out.

Love the patterns - never saw such fancy fleece or flannel

Very nice. I did one with 2 layers of fleece, but put a pre-made double-fold binding of a contrasting color on the edge. It's one of my favorite
quilts for the motor home.
