Glad you were able to find the same floral with both black and white backgrounds. It made a beautiful quilt. That was very creative.

BuzzinBumble 08-30-2014 04:41 AM

That is so beautiful Jeanne! The way you made it looks likes the flowers are twining around a trellis!

carolynjo 08-30-2014 05:00 AM

I've made a few Irish Chains, so I understand how much planning went into the placement of your fabrics. Absolutely stunning - yours is the most beautiful Irish Chain I've ever seen.

luvstoquilt 08-30-2014 06:17 AM

DITTO, the most beautiful Irish Chain I've ever seen.

quilter68 08-30-2014 07:35 AM

I had to sign in just to tell you that I think your quilt is Delightful! The concept of matching flowers in several colors of the same fabric is a great idea.

llong0233 08-30-2014 08:38 AM

Ditto GailG! Those flowers around the chains are just too beautiful. I have never cared much for the Irish Chain, finding it plain with not much eye appeal. But this has absolutely changed my mind. Wonderful job. Great imagination and execution of your unique vision. Thanks very much for sharing this wonderful quilt.

salisaquilter 08-30-2014 08:49 AM

What a pretty Irish chain, well done! Did you quilt this yourself, and if so what type of machine did you use? Your sister is going to love it!!!

raksmum 08-30-2014 08:40 PM

Wow, that is gorgeous! Lucky SIL

my Time, I did not quilt this one, just pieced the top and binding. I had a local professional long arm quilter do the quilting and she has a Nolting long arm machine.

AllyStitches 08-30-2014 09:11 PM

This is really beautiful. How creative! It's just gorgeous.

AllyStitches 08-30-2014 09:19 PM

Did you use a pattern or a tutorial? It's just so beautiful, I would love to know more about the technique.

I just made this one up, but will try to describe it. It is made all with 2 1/2" WOF strips of 5 different fabrics: black (B), floral black (FB), green (G), floral white (FW) and white (W). Each block is a 25 patch block, made with sets of five WOF 2 1/2" strips sewn together, then each 5 strip set is cross-cut into 2 1/2" strips and sewn back together in sets of five crosscut strips to make a 25 patch block. To make a block, the first five WOF strip set is sewn together in this order:
W, W, WF, WF, G. The second WOF strip set is sewn in this order: W, WF, WF, G, BF. The third strip set is sewn: WF, WF, G, BF, BF. The 4th WOF strip set is sewn: WF, G, BF, BF, B. And the last fifth WOF set is sewn: G, BF, BF, B, B. Cross cut each of these 5 WOF strip sets into 2 1/2" pieces (will be 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" each). Then take one cross cut piece from each of the 5 and sew together in order so the green fabric makes the diagonal line through the center of the block and whites are on one side and blacks on the other. Each block is 10 1/2" unfinished, 10" finished. Make as many sets/blocks as you need to make the size of the quilt you want. I made this one with 81 blocks (9 across and 9 down) and had to make 2 or 3 WOF 5 strip sets in each of the 5 color orders to get enough blocks. Each block is the same, just rotate them to get the lattice pattern effect. I added a narrow inner border and a medium outer border before binding.
Since it is just using 2 1/2" strips and cross cutting the sets into 2 1/2" pieces, it is easy to cut and sew. Just pay attention to the order of the fabrics. As I made each 5 WOF strip set and cross cut them, I stacked the pieces up into separate piles in the order of sewing them back together, so that made it easier to keep them straight. It is easier than it sounds.
I am not a pattern writer, so I hope is helps!! let me know if you have any questions.
