Now I really like this. Something very traditional, but with such a nice soft and cozy feel. Very nice.

They did have advertising on them in the early years. DH remembers his DM bleaching and dyeing them to make his clothes. I think it was in the 20s or early 30s that some one got smart and starting printing them. The flower sacks were the smallest usually 10 pounds, they are about the size of a fat quarter. The feed sack were for quanities of 50# & 100# and are about a yard of fabric. Sometimes it's called chicken linen. The colors in these bags are so vibrant. The last bunch of bags I got were so dirty that I washed and bleached them in hot water and they were beautiful aterwards. At one time you could even buy yardage to match the feed sacks. There are several books on feed/flower sacks. It's very interesting history. I don't remember them, but DH does.

Thanks for the info. After I typed the message that I was confused I went online and started looking it up. That looks like another thing that I can get in trouble for. Very nice.

I knew a lady once upon a time who had a large collection of sugar sacks. They had printing on them and were a rather coarse weave. I have never found any to buy. Though the years I have found about thirty feed sacks in print and hope to use them someday. Have never been able to figure out what to use with them as muslin seems so fine next to them.

Kona fabric is similar in feel. Joann's carries it in several colors. My DIL used it in a quilt with feed sacks and it is beautiful.
