FMQ class with Laura A Cunningham

We had a fantastic FMQ class today with national teacher Laura A Cunningham. She has a great sense of humor to make the class fun. She would draw a few FMQ designs and then we would practice them. She says she practices for 15 minutes every time she sits down at her machine. And this is an amazing whole cloth quilt she did.

There were lots of one-shoed quilters seen about the room today. LOL

What fun. Classes are so worth the time. I bet you learned a lot and with the laughs it is even more special.

That is some amazing quilting. You are so lucky to have the opportunity to take a FMQ class. Sounds like you definitely benefited from it. If free motion quilting is something one wants to master, the more you do it or are exposed to it and learn various techniques the better you will become-I'm happy for you :-)

Absolutely beautiful. Oh, to be able to do that! I try and try but my doodles do not turn out any where near that... but, I will keep trying. I am glad your class was wonderful. I like those kind of classes.

Practicing 15 minutes every time she sits down.....great idea.

Sounds like you had lots of fun. Maybe one day I will give it another try.
Need a brace for my thumb first.

Oh my gosh, her quilting is exquisite! That diligent practice really pays off.

Fun stuff!

Thanks for sharing your fun time with us...especially the photo of the one shoe quilter. :)

I see how she took the drawn shape as her outline and then filled in the details within the shapes.

Thanks for sharing the tip about practicing every time she sits down at her machine. I have 15 minutes. I will try it.

I am one of those one shoe quilters too.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the class and the instructor. Her whole cloth work is beautiful and the aqua painted toes... LOL

Ladies and Gentlemen, speak of Laura at the local guild for a possible meeting/class/workshop. You will not be disappointed. She has won several awards from Keepsake Quilting not only for her FMQ but also her artistic designs atleast four times. (She was an art major in college and it shows in her work.) Go to her websight and see all the classes/workshops she has to offer. She is talented and funny as she teaches/illustrates not only for longarmers, but sit-down and domestic machines as well. I have taken several of her classes at our LQS and I can also call her a friend.

Welcome from western NY and happy quilting :)

I’m always in awe of quilters talents and have accepted the fact I will never get to that level.

Suz 10-22-2017 11:34 AM

joyce888, I didn't think I could do this either, but with Laura's instruction and templates to get you started, you will be pleasantly surprized at your results, particularly after you wet and remove the blue markings. I am no expert, but with practice, I can get better than I am now. (Was unable to quilt for many many months owing to a sick DH and need to get back to practicing.)

The next class I want to take from Laura is the beginner's ruler class. Want to determine if I want to use rulers before investing in the foot required and the rulers. Both are expensive.
