I like this pattern too. Once the squares are carefully cut, it's mindless sewing, and such fun to see them coming together.

I was getting several client quilts of this pattern to longarm quilt, so I made some table runners for myself, to try out my quilting designs. It was fun making up quilting designs for this.

Oh, sorry, I meant to send a REALLY CLOSE closeup so you could see the swags I quilted. Simple and pretty quick, but lots of starts and stops.

The blocks were sort of boring when I finished them all, and put them up on a design wall. So I decided to border every other one with a different fabric, alternating between the grey-green wiggly fabric and the aqua tonal Moda. I liked it better then. :-)

REAL close

Very pretty, I love the alternating frame colors you chose to go with the posies! I have a whole stack of fabric that I pulled from my stash to make 4pp or snw, I've never made one, is it difficult to stack the repeats? that's the part I'm not sure of. Did you starch before you cut into strips, or would that make the fabric too rigid to work with. I guess I just need to jump in and do it and not worry about it so much. Thanks for sharing your runner, I may just start out with a runner too, you've inspired me.

Well, thank you!

I did starch the fabric before cutting. And I also put in a nice new rotary blade. You cut 4 layers at a time. So you want a nice sharp blade!

To get 4 pieces the same, you cut your fabric into 4 pieces Then layer the 4 pieces, all right side up, exactly on the repeat.

I pick some small detail-- center of a flower, the point of a leaf, or any tiny detail-- and put a pin through that exact same spot in all 4 layers. I pin all across, a few inches apart. It really helps.

Then cut into strips. Keep some pins in each strip to stoany shifting. And then cut the strips into squares. Each little pile will have 4 identical square patches.

Sew them into 4patches. Then put them upon a design wall or lay on a bed to see how you want them arranged. You'll probably spend as much time arranging and rearranging your blocks as you do sewing!
